Using Yakima HoldUp Part # Y02433 on Rear of Motor Home Not Recommended

Question:

Yakima .pdf instructions have a warning Not for use on travel trailers or RVs I have a 24 motorhome with a 2 factory installed receiver hitch. Is there any reason I cant use this platform carrier on my motorhome. P.S. I have a hitch extender with the 2 receiver for towing a car or cargo trailer and another 2 receiver welded above designed for a 2 bike carrier. Receiver hitch is rated at 350#, tow capacity is 3500#.

Yakima does not recommend using the HoldUp Rack on motor homes because a bike rack mounted on the rear of a motor home will be subject to more shaking and jarring than would be experienced when mounted in the receiver on a passenger vehicle. This is primarily caused by two factors, the distance between the rear axle of the motor home and the receiver, and the stiffer ride typically experienced in motor homes.

Yakima also does not recommend using a hitch extender of any type with the HoldUp rack. An extender places the rack further back from the receiver, which increases the leverage placed upon the receiver and the shank of the bike rack.

We offer several bike racks that are recommended for use on motor homes or travel trailers. The Swagman XTC-2, part # S64670 is a platform-type rack like the Yakima HoldUp. The bike tires rest on hoops, and the top of the frame is secured by a ratcheting adjustable hook.

We have a product demonstration video for the Swagman rack. I will provide a link for your below if you wish to view the video.
