Question:
Hello, I am looking for a way to carry some extra luggage on our 2012 Toyota Corolla with no existing rails or crossbars. For the crossbars, I was thinking of purchasing the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars, as I would like to purchase something with the least amount of wind noise but at the most affordable price. We have many long drives ahead of us on the highway. Would a hard shelled cargo box have less wind resistance and noise compared to a soft bag? A soft bag would also presumably require purchasing a rook tray or basket, whereas a hard shell box can attach directly to the bars? Do you have a recommendation for what I should purchase? I appreciate your help.

The Rhino Rack Vortex Aero crossbars you referenced that consists of the # RRVA118B-2 crossbars, the # RRRLKVA legs and # DK152 clamp kit would be an economical yet aerodynamic choice for you.
If wind resistance is a concern, going with a cargo box would be the way to go. For the most part, a cargo bag takes the shape of whatever's packed in it, while the cargo box is pretty aerodynamic. Keep in mind that putting anything on the roof of your vehicle, no matter how aerodynamic, will increase the wind noise you experience.
You don't mention how much space you need, but SportRack offers the Horizon, part # SR7011 with 11 cubic feet of space.
