Question:

Question. I have a 2012 Toyota Tundra with a Prodigy P2 that pulls a Keystone Outback 298RE with a GVWR of about 9000lbs We are not loaded that heavy more like 8500 Sometimes, I dont feel like I am getting the brake output to the trailer that I should. I am not a heavy braker and the P2 needs to feel the decleration to kick in. Would I be better off with the Drawtite time delay? Thanks for the input

Nine times out of ten if you are experiencing weak braking it is because the trailer brakes need to be adjusted. You can also try a higher gain setting on the P2 or using the boost feature to start the braking at a higher power level.

The P2 # 90885 does need to sense deceleration but if the vehicle is moving at all it will detect it and brake accordingly.

I would not recommend a time delay controller because it applies the same amount of braking force no matter what the situation is and this can be hard on the tow vehicle and trailer. Plus a time delay controller requires a lot of adjustment and fine tuning.

Also, make sure your P2 is not tilted or turned to the side because that can affect braking. I have also included some helpful links on testing and troubleshooting brake controllers for you.
