Are the power in and power out terminals direction specific?

Yes, the 12V power input and output terminals on the Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201 are directional. If you have a look at the linked photo you'll see that the left side terminal is for 12V battery input power, and the terminal on the right is the output terminal that passes current only when the center terminal receives a signal.

This solenoid requires an ignition-key-controlled circuit to open and close it. Often a power antenna circuit is chosen but any key controlled circuit will work. You'll just need a fuse tap kit like # F2526 to access a key-controlled circuit and route that to the center terminal. This works on most vehicles.
