Will there be any trimming of body parts, such as the fender or pieces attached to the fender, on a 2004 VW Passat wagon with this particular hitch?

Yes, there could be some trimming when installing the Curt Trailer Hitch # C11054, on your 2004 V-dub Passat Wagon. According to the instructions linked below, you will most likely need to trim the passengers side fascia as needed to clear the bumper bracket. I spoke with my contact at Cequent, the manufacturer, and he said that when they do not specify how much will have to be trimmed, it is usually a small amount.
To do the trimming you would use a rotary tool, aviator sheers, or a razor knife. There is also a little drilling involved in the bottom of the trunk and up through the bumper. For the bumper, it is recommended that you use a high-quality carbide drill bit to get through the touch metal of the bumper.
