Updated 01/17/2020 | Published 03/27/2015

Question:

I have a 2013 Ford Fusion with non adaptive cruise control. I also have a Kar Bar by Demco. What do I need, base plate and any adapter to tow this car. Thanks!

Flat towing a vehicle requires 5 basic components: tow bar, safety cables, wiring harness, base plates and a supplemental braking system. If mixing brands of base plates and tow bars then an adapter may also be needed. We offer RoadMaster Base Plate to Blue Ox and Demco Tow Bars Adapter part # RM-033 that will require the Roadmaster Tow Bar Quick Disconnect Kit # RM-201.

With this adapter and disconnect kit you can use Roadmaster base plates # RM-524434-4 along with your Demco Kar Bar towbar.

For safety cables I suggest the Roadmaster # RM-643; their coiled design helps prevent them from dragging on the ground. For a wiring kit I suggest the easy-to-use magnetic type like # TLL21RK from Optronics. And for a braking system I recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake # RM-9400.

The linked articles and video will give you additional information on these items and on flat towing in general. It is always a good idea to check your Ford owner's manual for any guidance regarding flat towing.

I am setting up my 2013 Ford Fusion SE Hybrid for towing behind my motorhome. Does my vehicle have variable voltage tail lights? Do I need a resistor of some sort, in addition to the 4 hy-powered diodes?

The 2013 Ford Fusion SE Hybrids don't have wiring compatible to utilize your factory wiring. Instead you will need to use a separate lighting like like Blazer Magnetic Tow Lights - Red LEDs - 4-Way Flat Connector - Wireless # C6304. This uses non-scratch heavy duty magnets and a wireless transmitter/receiver so you don't have wires flapping on your vehicle when towing it.
