12 Volt Ignition Source Needed for a Remote Engine Oil Cooler

Published 02/12/2015

Question:

Im a little unsure which 12V + Switched Ignition Source I would tie the fan into that can handle the draw. Would it not be better to incorporate a relay such as D16763 to avoiding additional draw to an existing circuit? Or is the intent of the installation instructions to attach to a 12V + Switched Ignition Source intending to tie into a portion of the fuse block that is only active with the ignition switch on?

The 12 volt ignition source needed to install remote cooler # D15450 is not a constant draw on the circuit meaning that it is only used at the thermostat switch. But the fan does draw continuous power when running. It wouldn't overload a circuit provided that the 12 volt ignition source used is rated for more than 15 amps which is the amount of continuous power the fan draws. Usually the radio circuit is what people choose. But any circuit that has power only when the ignition is turned on will work provided it is rated for 15 or more amps.
