Can a Dexter Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator be Repaired

Published 01/15/2015

Question:

I have a 2008 Dexter E/H 1000 hydraulic pump that has been sitting for two years mounted under flatbed trailer. Recently hooked up to this trailer and during my brake system inspection I noted the pump would barely turn over. Almost as if the motor is nearly siezed or the pump mechanism is nearly siezed. The unit is pulling too much ampherage and the wiring was getting warm. Is there a rebuild kit available for this unit? I cannot find any info or exploded views to see if I want to attempt disassembly and loosen up whatever seems to be binding.

It does sound like there is an internal problem with the Dexter actuator. There are no user serviceable parts on the inside so the only solution would be to send it in to Dexter to be repaired or purchase a new actuator. If you decide to go with a new one I have included a link to the options we have from drum brakes.

I am assuming drum brakes since your current actuator is rated for 1000 psi.
