Axle Recommendations for a Concession Trailer weighing 9,600 lbs

Published 01/08/2015

Question:

I have a concession trailer that weighs loaded 9600 lbs. There are two axles under the trailer now and only one has brakes. Im going to replace both axles, with new brakes and springs. I know, I will need to supply current spring center lines, wheel spacing etc. I would like to try and have the trailer at the current height or less, not sure if that will be possible. For starters what axle rating should I be using and would 15inch x 6 hole wheel and tires be heavy enough. Thank you,

The only axle system we carry that would have a high enough capacity for your trailer would be if you ran a tandem axle setup of the Timbren Axle-Less Suspension # ASR5200S01. These have a 5,200 lb capacity so a pair of these would have more than enough for you trailer.

What's nice about these is that they come with the suspension built into them and won't require a ton of measuring to pick out the correct system. These will need to be professionally installed but they are good to go and come with brake mounting flanges.

For a hub/drum for brakes you would want part # 8-201-5UC3-EZ and then for a just a standard hub without brakes you would want # 8-213-5UC1-EZ. For a right hand brake assembly # 23-459 and for a left hand side # 23-458.

For a compatible wheel and tire with the hub I recommended that would have enough capacity you would want the part # AM20455. This has a capacity of 2,830 lbs at 80 psi per wheel/tire so four of them would give you more than enough capacity. I attached a review video for this combo plus an FAQ on trailer tires.
