A combined lighting system, or 2-wire system, uses the same light bulb to signal both braking and turning. (In other words, the car signals a turn by flashing the brake light.)
A separate lighting system, or 3-wire system, has the brake signal and the turn signal light up independently of each other. Typically, the turn signal is amber.
To keep the separate lighting system on your car functioning properly while you're flat towing, add a wiring converter (118158 - sold separately) and 2 additional diodes.
If the engine is off and your car's brake lights illuminate when you press the brake pedal, you need to install a brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) with this kit. Without a relay, your car's brake signal will override the turn signal sent by the RV when you are slowing down to make a turn, creating a potentially dangerous situation. Other drivers will see that you're slowing down, but not that you're making a turn. With a brake light relay, you can signal both and travel safely.

Product works well. Plug and play. No problems there. The downside was getting the wires across the back of the vehicle without contacting the muffler, and then to the front where they can be plugged into the towing vehicle. That took some routing and even drilling of some small body holes to secure wires with tie-wraps.
The custom Hopkins wiring harness I installed on my 2008 Jeep JK has performed flawlessly. The harness sure beat trying to figure out the wiring and connections myself.
Easy to install, directions were spot on. Have not had any issues since in installed this kit on my 2016 Jeep…
This would have been 5 stars but the 6 pin connector I ordered some how was replaced with a flat blade 7 pin connector. Shipping was fast and customer service is A+
Easiest install ever but I took away one star because the connector did not snap together at the tail light. Tried everything to get them to snap in like the stock connector but they would not lock in. Hap to tape them so they wouldn’t pull apart.
Simple installation and excellent quality product! I installed this harness on my 2018 Jeep Wrangler. After one year it is still performing flawlessly. Don’t do like I did on my first tow vehicle and pay someone hundreds to thousands of dollars to do something so easy. Thank you etrailer and Hopkins for easy to follow instructions and videos!

Still working like the day I bought it! Great product!
I bought a complete flat tow parts fir a jeep wrangler. I decided I could install myself. Your installation videos made it nearly a piece of cake. From a quote I got from a RV service business, I saved several thousand dollars installing myself. etrailer is the place to for your RV needs!
It works great. Plug and play. Just make sure that you ground it to the vehicle being towed.
They help me find the right plug and the order went through fast and easy. Everything went good.
Easy to follow video instructions from etrailer and worked well
Relatively easy to install, worst part was routing the wiring to the front of the jeep. The rest was plug and play. I also replaced the flat four way plug with a six pin round.

Still working like a charm! 2,000 miles of carefree towing.
This harness works great for flat towing a Jeep Wrangler. The installation was straight forward and easy. It's nice to not have to run magnetic lights from the rear of the Wrangler to the tow vehicle anymore. Now, I just plug in to the adapter on the front aftermarket bumper.
Called my local trailer and flat tow company in my area and they quoted me $179.00 for the harness alone. I also got a quote for the install which was $350.00 and the total of $529.00. Called Etrailer and purchased the Hopkins harness that was on sale and paid total of less than $82.00. It took me around 2 hours to install with wire loom protection. Etrailer has always had excellent customer service. Big thanks to Brandon for all his help.

The kit was a breeze to install and everything fit just like it stated on the instructions. It's as easy as just plug in and go with my 2017 Jeep Wrangler JKU behind my RV. I would highly recommend this product to anyone especially any Jeep owner. etrailer really did their homework on engineering this product for my type of vehicle which made the installation so simple.

This was very easy to install on my Wrangler Unlimited and ties in very well with the existing lights. I do recommend purchasing the RoadMaster Relay kit.

Haven’t installed this yet but it looks to be great quality and the plug and play installation was very appealing to me. No cutting or splicing of the factory harness and no more magnetic tail lights.
Great product easy install. I found out on passenger side it was easier to drill with hole saw to pass wire trough cover .then made gromit out of rubber chiar/table cap .Sliced up side and noched for wires snapped right in. Product works great I would recommend .
Quick and easy
System works perfectly. Prepare to be patient running the wires between the back lights and to the front of the toad. It is not too difficult, just takes time. I installed it on a 2016 Jeep Wrangler 2-door and have towed it on seven outings covering 2,653 miles with no problems.
First year in service with zero issues. Absolutely happy with this purchase. Recommend if you’re looking to buy one. Easy install.
