Steel Lug Nut Inserts

Lionshead Aluminum Wheels with Steel Lug-Nut Inserts

This aluminum wheel comes with steel inserts in the lug nut wells. The inserts are pressed into the aluminum, and they help prevent the holes from wearing down over time. This ensures that the wheel stays secured to your trailer hub and that you won't have to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Higher Weight Rated Trailer Wheel and Tire that Fits 2017 Grand Design Momentum 349M
Hey Jason, I did some checking and it looks like your 2017 Grand Design Momentum 349M does have the same bolt pattern as the Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel part # LH88VR so it would work for you. We do have a J rated tire that fits this with the part # P35175 which has a 6,005 lb capacity per tire.

  • Will Lionshead 17-1/2" Wheel LH88VR Work With 1/2" Lug Bolt?
Hello Ryan, thanks for reaching out. No, the # LH88VR wheel will not work with 1/2" wheel studs. It should only be used with 9/16" studs. 1/2" studs would leave open space in the lug hole and this would eventually eat up and destroy your wheel studs. If you studs are 1/2" you will want to stick with a wheel made for 1/2" studs. Any trailer that uses a 17-1/2" 8-lug wheel should absolutely be equipped with 9/16" studs. What trailer is this going on? What size tires and wheels do you...

  • Availability of Lionshead Aluminum Tiger Wheels
Hi Jim; I'm sorry to say the Lionshead Tiger was discontinued. Lionshead has a bad habit of discontinuing wheels that were heavily used as OEM wheels on trailers, even when they're newer trailers. The only thing I can offer is a different style like the Phoenix # LH88VR you were looking at. If you have a single damaged wheel it may be worth checking with an RV scrap yard to see if they have any before switching to a different wheel.

  • What is the Offset and Backspacing of the 17-1/2" Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel?
Hey Gary, thanks for the information. The Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel item # LH88VR has zero offset. The backspacing on a 6-3/4" wide rim with zero offset is 3-3/8". We do not have a steel wheel in that 17-1/2" size without offset. I highly recommend picking the item # LH88VR wheel up and using it as a spare if it matches your current wheels. The Lionshead wheel styles are extremely hard to source replacements for. If you damage one down the road you won't have to hunt down a replacement...

  • Part Number for the 17-1/2" Lionshead Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel
Hey John, thanks for reaching out! For just the wheel out of the Cooper Work Series 215/75R17.5 Radial Tire w/ 17-1/2" Wheel # LH28FR you're looking at the Lionshead Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel # LH88VR. Are you needing to replace some wheels, or do you just prefer this style and want to use it with your current tires?

  • Availability of Lionshead Black Bearcat Wheel
Hello Mario; I'm sorry to say that the Bearcat wheel has been discontinued and is no longer around. Unfortunately, this isn't uncommon for Lionshead and a major pain point when anyone needs a matching replacement. The closest thing we have is the Phoenix # LH88VR, although close is a stretch. If you end up replacing all of the wheels so they match I recommend getting a wheel that isn't from Lionshead like the Aluminum Trinity Series Trailer Wheel # TA84XR so you don't run into this problem...

  • Could Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel Fit 2023 Forest River Riverstone Reserves
Hey Stephen, it is possible that the part # LH88VR is the correct replacement wheel for you Forest River but I don't have a way to look that up. If this looks just like what you have, and your tire is a 17-1/2 inch wheel size then yes it would work for you.

  • Is The 17-1/2" Phoenix Aluminum Trailer Wheel Sold Separately
Hi John, We can get you the Phoenix wheel only from the Cooper Work Series 215/75R17.5 Radial Tire w/ 17-1/2" Wheel # LH28FR. THe correct part for the wheel by itself is the following: - Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel - Black # LH88VR The # LH88VR has the 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern you need, and is the same 17-1/2" x 6-3/4" size you specified.

  • Replacement 17-1/2" wheel with an 8 Lug Bolt Pattern for a 2015 Grand Momentum 5th Wheel
Hey Danny, thanks for reaching out! We do have a handful of 17-1/2" wheels that use an 8 lug bolt pattern. A common one would be the Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel # LH88VR, but there are a couple of different designs so you'll want to filter through the linked selection if this doesn't look like it will work out for you.

  • What Type of Lug Nut Does Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel Use
Hi Daniel; Lionshead wheels like the Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel # LH88VR use your typical acorn style lug nut with a standard 60 degree cone like the # LHLR103. I'm sure this is the same as the tapered lug nuts you're referring to.

  • What Is The Max PSI Rating For The Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel LH88VR?
Great question, Matt. The Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel # LH88VR itself does not actually have a specific PSI rating. The max PSI rating is determined by the valve stem and/or tire. The # LH88VR comes with a metal valve stem that is rated up to 200 PSI, so it will be sufficient for any 17-1/2" tire. For example the Westlake 215/75R17.5 Radial Trailer Tire # LHWL097 has a 4,805-lb max load at 123 psi.

  • Replacement 17-1/2" Trailer Wheel for a 2020 Vanleigh Vilano 385RD 5th Wheel
Hey Jim, thanks for reaching out! We have some 17-1/2" trailer wheels, like the Aluminum Phoenix Trailer Wheel # LH88VR, but you would need to match it up with your bolt pattern and wheel style. We don't carry the Sumec brand, but if everything matches up then using a different brand wheel is still okay. I'm attaching a link to our selection of 17-1/2" trailer wheels for you to filter through. If you'd like my opinion on what best matches what you already have, I'll need a photo of your...
