LED Display

The LED display on the TriFlex is large and easy to read at a glance. It will show you what setting the brake controller is on as well as give you information for troubleshooting. You can adjust the screen brightness or trigger night mode so it won't glare obnoxiously on your dash.

To change any of the settings, press the silver mode button on the front of the brake controller and which mode you are currently on will show on the LED display. When you're on the setting you want to adjust, use the black rocker switch next to the mode button to adjust it up or down.

Gain Adjustment

Gain control lets you set the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes, adjusting in increments of 0.5. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop. You want to go as high as you can without the trailer brakes locking up. Typically, the gain is only readjusted when you experience changing road conditions or if the weight of your trailer changes. To get more power to your brakes, press the upper rocker switch. To decrease the gain, press the lower switch. When you make your adjustment, the gain setting will show on the LED screen for 10 seconds and then go into sleep mode.

Load Control

Once you have the gain set, you can fine-tune your braking by adjusting the load control on a scale of 1 to 9. This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer's braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the maximum braking level. Load control can get the braking power to your trailer faster and with more intensity so that it doesn't push your tow vehicle forward. If your vehicle takes too long to come to a stop, increase the setting by pressing the upper rocker switch. If it stops too abruptly, decrease the setting by pressing the lower switch. You can alter the setting to suit your driving preferences or to improve handling based on changing road conditions or varied trailer loads.

Pinch-Trigger Manual Override

The TriFlex comes with a easy-to-reach, pinch-trigger manual override, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in emergencies. To engage the manual override, just push in the trigger. This will activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights without you having to apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, perfect for limiting trailer movement while you're cruising.

Safety Features

The TriFlex offers key safety features to prevent damage to various components of your towing setup. This starts with built-in protection against shorts and positive and negative power reversal, as well as continous diagnostic checks to alert you to any potential problems as they come up. To minimize the drain on your vehicle's battery, the TriFlex will automatically go into sleep mode after 5 minutes of inactivity. Sleep mode will turn off again the moment you press the brake pedal.

Curt TriFlex NEXT

Quick Installation

Automatic leveling means you can mount the unit at any angle. Your mounting options are limitless, so long as you can still easily access the controller and the manual override. The included bracket is designed to mount the brake controller flush to the dash so it takes up almost no space at all.

If your vehicle already has a plug-in brake controller wiring harness, just connect the unit to it. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a vehicle-specific wiring harness (sold separately) to plug into. If a harness is unavailable for your vehicle, hardwiring will be necessary.

Note: If a custom brake control wiring adapter is not available for your vehicle, one of the following will be required:

20-Amp circuit breaker (9506P - sold separately) for 2- to 4-brake applications

30-Amp circuit breaker (38630 - sold separately) for 6- to 8-brake applications

See also etrailer.com's exclusive 7- and 4-way brake control installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately) if you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle.

Proportional Braking

What is proportional Braking

The Curt TriFlex NEXT brake controller comes equipped with proportional braking to give you the best towing experience. Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

The TriFlex uses an internal 3-axis accelerometer to sense how your vehicle is braking so it can send the right amount of braking power to your trailer. It measures the inertia of your tow vehicle and activates the trailer's brakes to slow at the same rate. The result is uniform braking across your towing setup. No push-pull action - just smooth, proportional braking every time.

Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers - Dual Plug In
part number: C51392

Install your Curt electric trailer brake controller quickly and easily with this custom wiring adapter. Simply plug one end of the adapter into your brake controller and then plug the other end into the built-in port beneath your vehicle's dash.

Features:

  • Plug-in wiring adapter allows for quick, simple installation of your electric trailer brake controller
  • No cutting or splicing required
    • Custom connector end plugs into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle
    • Other end plugs into the back of your electric brake controller
  • Compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from Curt
    • Brake controller must have built-in plug for adapter to connect - will not work on controllers with pigtail wiring harnesses
  • 2' Long, 12-gauge wires have protective covering to deter damage
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation of Curt Brake Controller Adapter

To install your Curt electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, and it is taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

No hardwiring is required to install this adapter. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

The Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for the 2017 Honda Ridgeline worked perfectly for the installation of my new Curt Spectrum Trailer Brake Controller. Thanks etrailer! Thanks Curt!

The Curt Spectrum Trailer Brake Controller has been working flawlessly. I am pleased that the custom harness made the install so simple.

by: Lee04/22/2024

Arrived as planed and was much smaller then my old clunky one. The custom cable harness was easy to install. Finding a flat spot to mount the controller took the longest to find the perfect spot. I gave a five stars because every was as it said. (Plug and play)

by: Chris03/29/2024

The product I ordered was not available. There was a suggestion for another product, without the full knowledge that there are multiple other products, and I was only given one choice. It is what it is, if I knew of options, I would’ve made a different choice. Not a great company in terms of knowledge and service

by: Adam 02/07/2024

The control works great. The reason for knocking off a star is that the control rattles whenever there is a vibration in the truck. While annoying, it doesn't affect the operation.

by: Dennis 02/11/2024

I have not used this device yet but I have installed it. It looks kool. I hope installation orientation doesn't matter too much.

2018 Ford Transit Connect

Installed the Curt Triflex in 2018 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E and was completely easy with the C51392 Honda specific wiring adapter that plugged into the Honda pre-wiring just above and left of the emergency foot brake as you look at the pedals. Like how the controller fits nicely in front of the shifter flat on the center console storage tray with a bit of Velcro to hold it and prevent movement in transit and matches the black interior trim well (didn't use the metal bracket that came with it). Have had great luck with Curt products (hitches, adapters, etc.) and this product is very well thought out. Too early to tell about long term use though.

install is a breeze!

2019 Honda Pilot

This part is listed to fit a 2019 Honda Pilot. I needed one for a 2019 Honda Passport;(basically the same vehicle); however since the Passports just came out in about February no one could tell me if it would work on the Passport. So I took a gamble and ordered this wire. Well I can confirm that this part does work on the 2019 Honda Passport. The hardest part was reaching the plug under the dash and getting this wire to plug into it, all without any room and only being able to get one hand up under dash. Wire made hooking up brake controller a lot easier than direct wiring.

by: Adam 09/30/2023

Hey guys thanks for all the help.
I submitted
a couple of questions that were quickly answered and Jon gave me a couple of suggestions that I did wind up choosing. They even came with detailed directions for my paticular truck.
Thanks again for the awesome service and help

2019 Honda Pilot

This fit my 2019 Honda Pilot perfect. Plugged right in under the dash. The plug branches out of another wiring harness directly above your OBD plug in. On the left side of dash. You will have to lay down and get your head near the pedals to see it tucked up in there. Very easy install, glad I went with etrailer. Made it simple.

  • To install the Curt TriFlex NEXT Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV to your 2018 Ford F-150 I recommend also picking up the Custom Wiring Adapter # C51436 so the installation is a plug and play setup. You'll be able to find the OEM connector on your Ford behind the center console controls (see attached instructions). If your F-150 came from the factory with a 7-Way connector at the back then you're good to go, otherwise if it came with the 4-Way then you also need the Universal Installation

  • Power Level Display on Curt Triflex Brake Controller # C24VV Varies When Going Over Road Bumps
  • You do not indicate whether the brakes seem to be engaging properly when you are going over these small road surface irregularities. It could be that just the display itself is at fault, reacting to these bumps, at that the controller is still otherwise operating properly. It may also be simply that your truck-to-trailer wiring is briefly losing its connection; this would cause the controller to see a changing electrical resistance and hence show a different output. • Curt TriFlex Brake Controller Output Numbers Jump when Going Over Bumpy Roads
  • The Curt Triflex # C24VV does not have a pendulum. That is an older technology that is not used that much any more. But it still could have been caused by the truck bouncing on the road if it was severe enough. It could also have been an electrical anomaly caused by flex between the truck and trailer connectors or the wiring on the brake magnets moving more than normal from the bouncy road conditions. Make sure the truck and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside

It sounds like you have the gain currently set at 9.7 which is why you are seeing this number flash on the display.
