The SnowBear Proshovel conveniently slides into your vehicle's front-mounted trailer hitch for easy, convenient mounting. Smoothly and easily raise and lower the plow from the comfort of your cab with the remote-controlled electric actuator. The pivoting blade makes this plow ideal for rocky or uneven surfaces because it can adjust to the terrain. Angled trip springs are also built in to help keep the blade from catching and tripping.

Simple, Hitch-Mounted Installation

HITCH MOUNTING

This hitch-mounted snowplow simply slides into your vehicle's front trailer hitch receiver, making it a breeze to install. Unlike a plow that attaches to custom-fit brackets, which ties you down to just 1 vehicle, this hitch-mounted plow can be used on most trucks or SUVs with a 2" x 2" front-mounted hitch. As a result, this plow can be easily switched between multiple vehicles. And because it offers a nearly universal fit, you won't have to buy a new plow when you replace your old vehicle.

To install the Proshovel snowplow, just slide the shank of the plow assembly into your 2" trailer hitch receiver . Then use a pin and clip or a hitch lock (sold separately) to secure the plow in the receiver.

How to Plow

Once the plow is mounted on your vehicle, lower the blade and set it to the desired angle. To set the angle, exit the vehicle and manually position the plow straight ahead, or 22 degrees to the left or to the right. Angling the blade allows you to push snow off to the side where you want it without having to change the angle of your entire vehicle. This is especially useful on a driveway or private roadway where piling the snow straight ahead would create a barrier.

To begin plowing, just drive forward. When backing up to take another pass, be sure to lift the plow with the remote or the in-cab toggle switch, then lower it again before moving forward. When approaching a large pile of snow, be sure to decrease your speed. Slamming into a pile of snow can void the warranty on the Proshovel.

When you are finished, put your vehicle in park and lower the plow. Remove the plow from your vehicle after every use.

Smooth, Controlled Lifting with Electric Actuator

ACTUATOR

The electric actuator on this plow allows you to lift and lower the blade using a toggle switch that mounts in your cab. You can also use the included wireless remote control. To raise the plow, activate the actuator. As the actuator moves along the internal screw, the arm on top of the actuator will pivot, raising the plow blade by pulling the chain that is attached to it. Having fewer moving parts than a typical winch makes this setup less complicated and less likely to break down than other plow lifting and lowering devices. There is also an internal clutch system that prevents damage to the actuator should you try to raise the blade too high or lower it too low.

2015 Ford Explorer

I purchased a SnowBear Proshovel Snowplow and a 2" Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver for my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The front mount hitch receiver was a breeze to mount to my vehicle. Literally 15 minutes from start to finish. When the SnowBear plow arrived I was a little apprehensive, as it came in 3 separate boxes and some assembly was required. The directions included were phenomenal, easy to understand and took you through complete assembly step by step. This has been a wonderful experience and I could not be happier.

Excellent quality, very strong welds and the paint job is perfect quality, there were 2 holes in the box from shipping which some bubble wrap can fix,

Very satisfied, higher quality then expected and the price was the lowest of all sites.

Thank you

Bob

Price was good.
Ordering was easy.
Customer
service was excellent.
Received it on time.
It fits perfectly.
Easy to install...Im disabled and still it was easier than I thought it would be although not the 20min it says it will take. In fact I was going to have someone install it for me but thought Id better line things up to make sure it would fit and opps it was in place. FYI they should change the install instructions in that the wire used as a bolt-fish needs a feeder wire from the bolt hole, connect to bolt-fish and then pull through...thats much easier than playing around with that little wire trying to hit the hole.

Heres a funny thing...it was installed right away but Ive never had to use it yet its set up as a winch attachment and weve not had any weather or me getting caught in a bad spot. But it is sure nice to know its there if I need it.

by: Pat A09/09/2011

The diagram shows the 1/2" bolts going right in by the hole in the bottom of the frame, they did not fit through that side hole.I had to go back toward the passenger compartment about 5" to get the 1/2" bolt and plate in.On my 4 wheel drive truck I had to drop the skid plate to get the 3/4" bolts in.You should recommend a longer receiver for it,I had to take off the license plate bracket. My standard was too short. The hitch is the best thing for moving my boat and jet ski around.Triple A plus.

by: Benjamin10/15/2018
2006 Chevrolet Colorado

The shipping box was destroyed and in 3 different areas of the hitch itself the paint was scratched/worn down to the metal.
The install instructions were not at all what was necessary for my truck. Another reviewer pointed out that he had the same issues but I had additional.
I had to remove the plastic splash guard as the hitch would not go up into the frame enough to line the holes up for the bolts. The round flat bolt would never fit in the holes indicated by the installation instructions unless you CUT the frame. Like I said, another reviewer had to go about 5" towards the cabin for a better hole, mine was more like a foot towards the cabin, underneath a flap of plastic. Once I figured that out, no problem fishing the wire and bolts through frame.
You'll need a 3/4" socket for the smaller nut/bolt combo and a 1 1/8" or 28mm socket for the larger. It would've been nice to know and read this ahead of time in the instructions, so I wouldn't have to go out mid-install to buy the appropriate socket.
Again, another reviewer with the same vehicle put that same information in his review (which I read after the fact because I was frustrated and wanted to see if others had issues).
Now that the hitch is in place, you think you're done, but the splash guard NO LONGER fits and will under no circumstance go back to where it needs to be for the factory bolt holes. So, for the people whom didn't remove their splash guards for the install, good luck when it comes time to change your oil or work on anything underneath there, as you will have to take the hitch BACK OFF before you can remove that splash guard.
So overall, the ordering experience and shipping was great. The followup email wanting a review after the item was delivered was.....ok, but everything after, not so much.
It's not their fault. They're a third party selling the product so it's the manufacturer's problem but I can't imagine I'm the only one in the history of this vehicle and this hitch that has had a problem.
Mentioned in other reviews as well, they could've boxed the hitch better.
Is the star review for the product itself or the overall experience? For me, it's the overall experience.

2006 Chevrolet Colorado

This was my 4th hitch from etrailer.com. I keep coming back because of the good service, price, and mostly the videos. Although this one doesn't have an installation video (maybe it will by the time you read this), I read the instructions and felt like it wouldn't be too bad and uderstood the basics from my previous experience with the 3 previous hitches.

It was easy to install, but I had to go out and buy a big 1 and 1/8" socket for the large bolts. You'll also need a deep 3/4" for the smaller ones. I can also confirm that this hitch fit great on a 2006 Isuzu i-280 (re-badged Colorado).

I'm always impressed with etrailer.com's fast shipping, and they've made me a repeat customer.

2009 Chevrolet Colorado

The front hitch installed easily on on my 2009 Chevy 4x4 V8 Colorado. I do recommend getting a telescopic magnetic pickup tool to hold the 3/4 nut so you don't have to remove the plastic splash pan under the truck. I can feel a difference in the steering wheel with the hitch on there though. Hope the extra weight doesn't wear anything out.

by: Annabel L.01/07/2017

Very pleased with this hitch. All hardware is included and the instructions are easy to follow. The hitch is very sturdy and I am quite thrilled to install a product that has been made in the USA. I plan to use it with a winch system. The two recovery "loops" gives my truck a secure place to affix a tow hook if I need to pull something or be pulled.

I normally don't write reviews but I felt compelled to write one about this "Custom trailer hitch receiver "
This piece is AWESOME! I figured I was going to have to drill some holes and "make" it work but no, this pc fit perfectly to the preexisting holes, and they also provided a fishwire to feed the bolt to the hole. It is as professional as they come with what looks to a powder coated finish and beautiful welds. A quality piece for sure, at what I thought was a great price. I would definitely recommend this company to my friends!

by: Clancy05/14/2009

Fit perfect, good instructionsShipped quickly, fit perfect, good instructions, special tool to get inside frame with bolt worked great. One person install. Box it was shipped in needed better securing but no damage was done to hitch.

  • Comparing SnowBear Snowplows with Electric Actuator and Snowplows with Electric Winch
  • Both the SnowBear Proshovel Snowplow, with Electric Actuator # SB324-168 and the SnowBear Personal Snowplow, with Electric Winch # SB324-080 will allow you to easily raise and lower the snowplow, and both come with an in-cab toggle switch, as well as a wireless remote, so that the plow can be controlled from the comfort of your vehicle. SnowBear markets the plow with the electric winch as a personal/residential winch, and the plow with the actuator for more larger scale plowing needs.

  • Let me start by saying that I may have a solution that will work for you. While I do recognize the 2008 Izuzu I-290 and the 2008 Chevy Colorado are the same truck, there are just enough differences between the two that the front hitch receiver that fits the 2008 Chevy Colorado does not fit your 2008 Izuzu I-290 truck. It appears that you may be using your truck for off-roading. If that is the case, you can use tire chains, if your vehicle has a tire size other than P225/75R15, P265/75R15,
