Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System Installation - 2020 Chevrolet Sonic

Hi there, Chevy owners. Today on your 2020 Chevy Sonic, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install Demco's Stay-IN-Play duo supplemental braking system. There's five main components you're gonna need when flat towing your vehicle behind your motor home. You're going to need your tow bar, your base plate, your diode wiring, your safety cables, and your supplemental breaking system. And this is what our main breaking system component looks like when it's installed. This is the operating unit here that kind of takes care of the activation of the breaking system.

Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit Installation - 2019 Chevrolet Sonic

Whenever we go to flat tow our Sonic, there are going to be several components that we need. One of them is going to be a braking system, so that whenever we press the brakes on our motor home, our Sonic will slow down with it and we're not relying on the motor home to slow everything down. Now, most braking systems are going to have a monitor light in there, so we can monitor what's going on and when the brakes are applied in our Sonic without having to leave the motor home. Now, the problem with that is, is that most monitor lights are going to go off of the brake cylinder and the actuator that's actually causing the brake pedal to move, but if something we're to fall on the brakes or that cylinder doesn't move back all the way, or if it's not installed properly, we're not going to get an accurate reading. That's where our stop light switch is going to come in and help us out. Our stop light switch is actually going to give us an accurate reading of when the pedal moves rather than when the actuator moves. Our stop light switch is going to mount directly to the brake pedal arm. It's going to have a small plunger in there, and whenever the brake pedal moves, it's going to energize that circuit and send that signal out.

This braking system is nice, because it works wirelessly from the motor home to the vehicle, and it's a proportional braking system, so however much force you apply to the brakes in the motor home it will apply that same amount of force to the brakes in the towed vehicle. This unit does have a 12-volt outlet on it so if there's something else that you may need to have plugged in, here inside the vehicle while it's being towed you can plug it in to the socket that's on the Patriot box without having to add an extra 12-volt outlet. For our controller here, is what goes inside the motor home and you plug it in and then this will show you what your gain is, and you can adjust your gain on here, as well as on the Patriot box itself. It will give you the same lights to let you know that the unit is on, that the break-away switch is plugged in and working.
