If you are looking for a creative solution that will allow you to attach a single bike rack to your 2016 Smart fortwo, I recommend the SeaSucker Talon Roof Bike Rack - Fork Mount - Vacuum Cup Mounted # 298-BT1004. The Talon comes with a weight capacity of 45 pounds and includes a HUSKE universal fork mount, a 9-mm thru-axle adapter, and a quick-release skewer to secure your bike. I pulled up the owners manual of your 2013 Smart fortwo and there is no exclusions for flat towing the automatic transmission models so it would be possible to flat tow yours. I don't have this verified for all years of this vehicle though.
The first thing you need is a base plate kit like the Blue Ox # BX1987 that you referenced.
In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. One of... view full answer...
To have your Roadmaster baseplates, tow bar and other components installed, I recommend steering clear of a car dealership and rather going to an RV dealer or any mechanic you trust. The installation instructions are easy enough for anyone who is mechanically inclined to follow and you can always direct them to videos on our site if they need assistance.
Because we don't have places all over the country we refer the installations to, we simply suggest going to someone you trust will... view full answer...
To flat tow your 2015 Smart car behind your motor home you will need base plates on the car, a compatible tow bar to connect the car to the RV, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking.
For base plates I recommend the Roadmaster EZ base plates # 52285-1. These base plates feature removable arms so that the base plates can't be seen when you are just driving the Smart car like normal.
For a compatible tow bar I recommend the Falcon 2, # RM-520. It is a very popular tow bar and... view full answer...
We have everything you need to flat tow your 2016 Smart fortwo, but to install the base plate kit you will need do some minor fascia trimming and some minor drilling which could be an issue for your lease agreement. Typically any modification is prohibited so a tow dolly option like the part # RM-2050-1 would probably be your best option.
To flat tow your vehicle you would want the Blue Ox base plate kit part # BX2004.
In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow... view full answer...
Yes, the 2014 Smart Fortwo is flat towable with all four wheels on the ground per the owner's manual. There were no specifications for auto/manual trans models. For future reference, this is where you can look in order to determine whether or not a vehicle can be flat-towed and the steps needed to do so. I have attached below the complete parts list needed to complete the task.

I found the owners manual of your 2015 Smart fortwo and they state that for tow dolly purposes you are supposed to have the rear axle on the dolly and the front axle on the road. Check out page 171 of your manual for more info and procedures. You can then use a tow dolly like the Roadmaster part # RM-2050-1. view full answer...
The Kuat Transfer 1 Bike Platform Rack # KU64FR will allow you to carry a bike with fenders if they are mounted in a way that will allow the clamping force needed to secure the bike without damage to the fender. With plastic fenders I don't recommend using that bike rack as it could deform your fender.
For your RadCity Commuter bike, you could look at how the RockyMounts HighNoon FC Solo Bike Rack for 1 Bike - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # RKY87RR mounts. It has extra features... view full answer...
Let's start with a base plate kit for your 2012 Smart Fortwo. For that you want the part # 52285-1 which is confirmed as a fit.
In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267,... view full answer...
The owners manual of your 2015 Smart fortwo is the authority on whether it can be flat towed. That said we also have confirmed with Roadmaster it is required. We have a kit that was designed to make this as easy as possible that is also a fit for your vehicle with the Roadmaster Quick Disconnect part # RM-766. view full answer...
To be able to flat tow your 2013 Smart Fortwo you will need a handful of equipment. The Roadmaster Base Plate Kit # 52285-1 will work really well on your Fortwo. It features removable arms so when you are not towing you will still have that nice, clean look.
The next thing we will need to look at is a tow bar, like the Sterling # RM-576 from Roadmaster, and wiring, like the Roadmaster # RM-15267. This will help your brake lights still work on your Fortwo while towing. Another thing you... view full answer...
The more secure coupler locks we offer are designed for be used when the trailer isn't hitched to the vehicle. They're designed to prevent the coupler from being hitched to a trailer ball, like # FA86-0015-305.
With the trailer attached to the ball, you'd want to use something that would prevent the latch mechanism of the coupler from being opened, as well as securing the ball mount into the hitch receiver using something like the # BD580402 hitch lock you'd looked at.
The latch locks... view full answer...
To trickle charge the battery on your vehicle you will need to use a # 37185 to convert the 4-way on your tow vehicle to a 7-way. You will need to route the purple wire of this 7-way to the positive side of your battery on your tow vehicle through a circuit breaker like part # 9510 and 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1.
Now for an umbilical to go from the 7-way to a 5-way you will want to use the part # HM47075. You will then need to use the part # 47515 to convert the 4-way on your toad... view full answer...
There are a few considerations you need to make when selecting a fifth wheel hitch. In regards to weight, you must be within both the vertical load (pin weight) as well as the gross trailer weight. The Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30047 for example has a 4,000 lb vertical load and 16,000 lb gross trailer weight rating. This should be more than enough for your needs. view full answer...
I have some alternative ideas for you. Unfortunately the Smart FourTwo muffler runs right behind the rear bumper so no one is going to be able to design a hitch that works around that. If you only wish to carry a few bikes then you could use the SeaSucker # 298-SX6000B roof cross bars with the Yakima # Y02114 Wheel mount bike racks. If you wanted to carry extra cargo you can use the Trunx # TRX44FR roof top cargo box with the same SeaSucker cross bars.

Yes, the Demco base plate kit, part # DM9518256 that you have is compatible with the Dominator Tow Bar part # DM9511008. There's nothing wrong with having more capacity than you need so this tow bar should work well for you.
There are several other components need to complete a flat towing setup. The Aventa comes with safety cables, you will need a lighting option though.
For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight housing.... view full answer...
There are only 1-1/4 Class I hitches available for your 2010 Smart Fortwo. The 2 inch hitches are reserved for vehicles with higher towing capacities like trucks and SUVs. For more info check out the FAQ article I attached on hitch classifications.
The only hitch I can recommend for your vehicle would be the Curt Hitch part # C11020 that you referenced.
With this hitch all non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps. Failure... view full answer...
Thank you for your purchases! From what it sounds like you may not have a supplemental braking system in your 2008 Smart Fortwo, and I highly recommend installing one to help get a more controlled flat towing experience. You should not have your car's steering wheel whipping quickly when you make a turn and I imagine this happens mostly as you are making a sharper turn when slowing down; a supplemental braking system will greatly help prevent that.
Using a bungee cord like you are doing... view full answer...
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11020 would be a good choice. It is rated for up to 200 lbs. of tongue weight and your total load is going to be around 145 lbs. Of course check the owner's manual on your Smart to ensure that it is rated to handle at least the 145 lbs. you plan on hauling. As long as it is you're in good shape.
I have linked an installation video for you to check out on the hitch being installed on your vehicle for you to check out. view full answer...
To flat tow your 2012 Smart fortwo behind your Toyota Tacoma you will need base plates, a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking.
First, for base plates I recommend the Blue Ox model # BX1987 because they are generally easier to install and cost a little less than the competition.
For a compatible tow bar there are a couple of ways to approach it. You could go with a tow bar that costs a little more and end up saving money on the braking system or you could... view full answer...
