Replace that factory spare tire carrier with one that greatly reduces the stress on the rear door. It creates space between your spare and the rear door and glass, while keeping your spare safe and secure.
A spare tire puts constant weight on the back of your Defender, and the factory carrier leaves the rear door managing much of that load. This replacement system adds a support plate that reinforces the door, while heavy-duty hinges transfer more of the weight across the rear body of the vehicle. Your spare stays mounted where it is easy to reach without relying on the door alone for support.
The factory spare tire carrier is removed before the new carrier and reinforcement components are installed. The support plate uses existing mounting holes plus 2 additional drilled holes, and the hinges require drilling into the vehicle body. Black powder-coated steel handles outdoor exposure, and having 2 people available helps safely manage installation.
