Installation for Trucks With Pop-Out Rail Caps

pop off rail cap

If you have pop-out rail caps you can install the anchors in seconds. All you have to do is pop the caps off using a flat head screwdriver, insert the anchors into the stake pockets, and tighten them down with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Installation for Trucks Without Pop-Out Rail Caps

Router Bit

If you have truck bed rails with hidden stake pockets that don't have pop-out rail caps, a router and a drill with a 1/2" bit (not included) are required to install the anchors.

Router Bit

The router bit (sold separately) lets you perfectly trim the caps without damaging your truck bed. To install the anchors, drill a 1/2" hole in the center of each rail cap and use the router to make the cuts. The router bit has 4 roller bearings that guide the router around the inner steel pocket to prevent overcutting the surface of your bedrails. Cut around each perimeter several times so that all the plastic residue resulting from the cuts gets trimmed away. Once the caps have been trimmed you can install the anchors.

Router Bit

If you have rear stake pockets with an inner plastic shaft, use a router with the rotary pocket saw bit (sold separately) to remove it.

Video Transcript for Review of BullRing Truck Bed Tie Downs - Raised Fit Retractable Anchor For Stake Pocket - BU85FR

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna take a look at these BullRing Raised Fit Retractable Tie-Down Anchors for your truck bed stake pockets. These heavy duty anchors attach to your truck bed stake pockets. And they're gonna give you tie-down points to secure your load working with your S-hook and J-hook connections. And these are going to fit various years and versions of the Ford F series, the Dodge Ram pickups, the GMC Sierras, and the Chevrolet Silverados.

To confirm if this set is going to work for your truck, take advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com and input the year make and model of your truck. And our fit guide will let you know if these will work for you, or if we have something comparable that will work for you. Now while your factory anchor points are inside of your truck bed, they can be hard to reach. These retractable anchor points are going to install into the stake pockets on top of your bed rails and then you're just going to simply pop the anchor ring up when you want to use it to secure a load and then push it down firmly flush when you don't need it. And that ring will be out of your way.

So as you can see these are very easy to use once they are installed. You just, again, pull that ring up firmly and that's going to snap into place. And that ring is secure. It's not going to accidentally push back down or slip back down. It's going to be available the entire time you need it up to attach your strap to, and then it's gonna stay up until you just push it down firmly.

And then it is completely out of your way. The raised fit sits just above your bedrail. And these anchors have a weight capacity of 1000 pounds. They're constructed of stainless steel. So that's going to resist rust and corrosion.

And this nylon, lower body is going to reduce sound. Now, not only are these simple to use, but installation is gonna be pretty simple and quick as well. And for the most part, it requires nothing more than a Phillips head screwdriver. So first you're going to want to remove any plastic caps that are covering your stake pockets. I do want to mention that if you have a 2009 or newer Ram truck, there is some trimming that is required on your rail caps. So to make that trimming easier for you, I am including BullRing's bits that they offer for your 2009 and newer Ram to make that trimming job an easier process. And so on your screen, you see item numbers for their cap, their router bit for the rail cap and the saw bit for the rear pocket. And again, those will, those can make the trimming process very easy and a little bit quicker and just take those item numbers, pop into the search field of our website here at etrailer.com. And that will take you to those bits for trimming up that plastic. Now, once you have those plastic caps removed or the trimming taken care of, if necessary on your vehicle you wanna take your Phillips head screwdriver and loosen the two screws here in the anchor. And then once you loosen them, go ahead and remove them. And for our demonstration purposes, I went ahead and loosened these screws, and I'm just gonna go ahead and remove them. And then once you have these screws removed, we're just going to hold this by the top cover. And that's going to allow this plate to drop down. This plate is not going to become separated completely from this range. So you're not gonna have to worry about losing it in your stake pocket. And so you're just going to, as you're holding onto this top cover guide the anchor into the stake pocket you might have to put it in at an angle on different sides just to get it in there, just right. And then once you have it in, you're just going to pull this up and then that lower bracket is going to catch on your truck's sheet metal and then hold the ring. And that cover is going to drop into place. And once that cover is in place, just go ahead and replace your screws. Hand tighten them and all you need to do on these screws, tighten them is just hand tighten them with your screwdriver. You do not want to over tighten these. If that plastic rail cap starts bending or bowing then that means that it's too tight. So you definitely don't wanna over tighten these and then these are installed and these are gonna be ready for you to use. And it's as simple as that. Yeah, you are going to get four tie-down anchors. And if you're interested in getting a set of six we do have those available here at etrailer.com. And once again, I am including our item number to that set of six. If that is something that you would be interested in over this set of four, these do have a lifetime warranty. And I think these are overall a really great product. I think they're well built. They feel very sturdy, very durable and I love how easy these are going to be to use. Once you have them installed you're always gonna have easily accessible tie-down anchors whenever you need them. And then when you don't need them you just push them down and they are out of your way. And probably even more impressed with how easy these are going to be to install. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..

This neat little addition to the truck is easy to put in and looks custom. The hardest part is getting it out of the package :) The price was fair and delivery was spot on. I am an Etrailer junkie and will continue to be so. They have so many neat things one could go broke just customizing. The customer inquiry response on all issues is phenomenal.
