Stacked-plate heat exchangers have long been considered the most effective type of oil or transmission coolers, primarily because of their increased surface area. Allowing fluid to spread out over this larger surface area decreases the time required for heat transfer to take place. As a result, plate coolers typically manage to cool a greater volume of fluid faster than tube-and-fin, or even plate-and-fin, varieties. Add to that a powerful tornado fan that ensures optimum airflow at all times, no matter the environment, and you have a super-efficient heat exchange unit.

Video Transcript for Detailed Breakdown of the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Cooler Assembly w/ Fan, -6 AN Inlets

Speaker 1: Today, we're gonna take a look at the Derale Hyper Cool Remote Cooler Assembly with the fan. Now, this part will improve performance and overall functioning of your engine or transmission. It has the super-efficient stacked plate cooler core for optimum heat transfer. This is the most efficient cooling system with a large surface area of a stacked plate design and turbulator technology. It does use the furnace brazed aluminum construction for great heat dissipation. On the other side, you can see, here, it offers superior air flow with this 500 cubic feet per minute reversible electric Tornado fan. This fan is reversible. It comes out of the box set up as a puller fan.

If you need to reverse it to a pusher fan, you can just remove the clip, flip the fan the other way, and then put it back together. It's pretty simple to do.This is designed with a clear anodized aluminum shroud for additional durability. It is designed to mount anywhere with these aluminum mounting brackets. Now, this part will include everything shown, here, on the table: the complete cooler assembly, the aluminum male ANN fittings, and the three-eighths inch hose bar adapters that you just screw on there. Then apply these to the -6ANN fittings on there, adapts it to the three-eighths inch hose bar. Now, these parts are made in the USA. The inlets on here are -6ANN.

The adapters we've mentioned that it comes with are -6ANN to a three-eighths inch hose bar. The distance between these inlets center to center, we put a ruler on that, you can see it's gonna be right at 10 inches. The mounting dimensions, these holes, here, where you'll mount 'em, the width center to center is right at seven-and-a-half inches, and the height, center to center, is gonna be right at nine inches. Now, the overall dimension of this cooler is gonna be 13 inches wide, 10 inches tall, and about five and five-eighths inches deep. That should do it for the review on the Derale Hyper Cool Remote Cooler Assembly with the fan.

Arrived today. need to find time to install. Looks great. box was untaped but I think everything is here. It looks like a quality product. Excellent so far!

Appears to be well-built and wasn't too hard to plumb in series with the existing oil cooler. Unfortunately with my 2010 Suburban it did not make any difference in the oil sump temperature shown by the computer - either daily driving or while towing. I plan on borrowing a laser thermometer to see what the actual input/output temps are.

I was surprised at the lack of feedback on these products, and the differences in opinions. I tow a fare amount, between 7000lbs and 9500lbs. My vehicle is a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 8 speed transmission. ( outside temperature 20-30 deg Celsius ). Before I installed this engine cooler my temperature ran around 115 deg Celsius on a flat pull and 130 - 135 deg Celsius on most hills. After a hill it took a long time to drop in temperature, most time it hardly dropped. Now I rarely see 115 deg Celsius on a hill, and recovers to 100 deg Celsius very quickly. So in short I'm very happy with this product. I would recommend it to anyone that Tows.

Love my engine oil cooler. I was having overheating problems with my Dodge truck while towing on a hot day. I asked the guys at etrailer if I should add a bigger radiator, and engine oil cooler or another tranny cooler. They nailed it when they recommended a supplemental engine oil cooler. I now can town my fifth wheel RV trailer on the hottest days and in the mountains without overheating. I do still have to watch the temps and if they start to get over 260 f or so I downshift a gear or two to get greater fluid flows. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is that with the supplied hose clamps I was plagued with constant slow leaks. I finally bought a much higher end hose Clamp which did solve the problem.

  • Can Derale D13760 Hyper-Cool Transmission Cooler and D13021 Thermostat Be Installed Upside Down
If you're speaking of the # D13021 Hyper Cool Remote cooler with fan, yes the fan can also be mounted upside down. It IS a remote fan and doesn't need to be directly in the wind generated by the vehicle driving down the road, but it will need access to airflow it can pull across the coils. For example you wouldn't want to install in in a confined space. If you're speaking of the thermostat, It can certainly be installed upside down, as a matter of fact that's how it's shown in the instructions...
