Easy Hookup with Telescoping Arms and Swivel Head Joint

Blue Ox Avail Self-Aligning Arms

The arms on the Avail are designed to make hooking up super easy. It gives you a lot of flexibility for getting your toad (towed vehicle) connected to your RV, without the need for your vehicle to be perfectly level or in the exact right spot.

Just slide the tow bar into your hitch and pin it in place, then extend the telescoping arms out until they reach the base plate tabs on your car. Then the swivel head joint allows the whole tow bar to twist left and right as you work to get the arms into place.

Once you're all hooked up, slowly pull forward and the self-aligning arms will fully extend and lock into the towing position. Double check that the arms are properly latched and you'll be ready to hit the road!

Extra-Long Arms Get You Around Tight Turns

The Avail's arms are longer than average, giving you an above-average turning radius. You're going to be able to get around obstacles and make sharp turns with no worry of clipping the corner of your RV. Maneuver through gas stations and the campsite no problem.

Non-Binding for Easy Disconnect

Uneven ground and sharp angles can put the arms of the tow bar in a bind and make them stiff and immoveable. Once you get to your destination, the last thing you need is to spend several minutes wrestling, yanking, and kicking at them to get your car disconnected.

Blue Ox Avail Non-Binding Tow Arms

Instead, get out of a bind in one easy step. Simply press down on the Avail's non-binding levers to disengage the internal latches in the arms. This releases the pent-up pressure so you can unhook and get on with your adventure.

Secure Triple-Lug Connection

Blue Ox Avail Triple-Lug Connection

Blue Ox tow bars have triple-lug brackets to create an extra-secure connection to the base plate. It's a small detail with big benefits, as this crucial component of your flat tow setup is guaranteed to be tight and sturdy.

Simple Storage: RV-Mounted Tow Bar

Blue Ox Avail Easy Storage

The Avail folds up to conveniently store on the back of your RV when you're not using it. After disconnecting the tow bar from your toad, push the arms of the tow bar together so that they are side by side. Push the tow bar up so the bracket on the shank holds it in place. The arms can then swing to the right or to the left, whichever side you want to store it on.

For added protection from the elements, slip the Blue Ox tow bar cover (BX88309 - sold separately) over the Avail when you're not using it.

Heavy-Duty Safety Cables Included

Blue Ox Avail Safety Cables

Included with this tow bar are 2 coiled safety cables rated at 10,000 lbs. These cables, required by law, will keep your toad behind your RV if there's ever an accidental disconnect while towing. The steel hooks on each end of the cables connect to the toad's base plate and the RV's trailer hitch. The spring-loaded latches ensure that the hooks stay connected.

What You Need to Flat Tow

Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.

To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.

For the RV Between the RV and Towed Car For the Towed Car
Hitch Tow bar Base plate
Wiring plug Safety cables Braking system
Wiring adapter cord Wiring kit/diodes

The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

Video Transcript for Review of Blue Ox Tow Bar - Avail Non Binding Tow Bar 2-1/2 Inch Hitch - BLU78QV

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this Blue Ox Avail Non-Binding Tow Bar. Now, this is going to fit your Blue Ox, etrailer, and Demco base plates, and this can also be used with your Roadmaster base plates. You will need an adapter and those adapters are sold separately from this tow bar. But if you need to know which specific adapter that you need for your Roadmaster base plate, on this product page, we do have a few listings there for you that will help you with choosing the correct adapter.

So you're gonna be able to bring your heavy vehicle along for the ride with this easy-to-use RV tow bar. The arms are going to extend smoothly and they're going to pivot to connect to the base plates and the swivel head joint is going to let the bar twist left and right for effortless maneuvering. And then once you start pulling forward, as you already saw, the arms are going to automatically lock into that towing position. So, again, let me just show you that. And then as you can see, they're securely locked into place.

And the extra long design's going to make tight turns of breeze. And disconnecting's going to be just as simple even on uneven ground thanks to the non-binding levers that we have here. And so just push that down, then that's going to allow me to easily retract the arm. So, very easy to use. You're not gonna be struggling to get this connected or disconnected.

Now, the tow bar is going to attach securely with the triple lug brackets that you see here, and then this is going to store neatly on the back of your RV. You're just going to push the arms up and fold them to either side. I don't have the leverage nor the strength to actually demonstrate that stowed position on my table, so I'm showing you a photo just to kind of give you an idea of what that is going to look like. But once you have this in the receiver, it's going to be easier to get that into the stowed position. These also include these two coiled safety cables that are going to stay off the ground while towing.

The vinyl coating's gonna help them last longer. And then the spring-loaded latches are going to keep the hooks firmly in place, giving you the peace of mind that you need while you're out on the road. And this is built from heavy duty steel with the corrosion-resistant powder coat. And so this tow bar is made to last. The rubber sleeves are going to protect those inner arms from dirt and debris, keeping everything moving smoothly. This is designed for your 2 1/2-inch trailer hitch receiver on your RV. And the arm length when this is fully extended is going to be 52 inches. And then when retracted, it's gonna be about 42 1/4 inches. This has a 10,000-pound towing capacity. The safety cable length is seven feet. They are rated for 10,000 pounds. Altogether, this tow bar weighs about 45 pounds or so, so it's not terribly heavy. A pin and clip is included as well, as you can see here. But if you happen to have any other questions, whether it's about this tow bar or anything else that we carry here at etrailer, don't hesitate to reach out because ultimately we wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need. Well, again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
