Many retractable covers can bind, wear out, or need constant lubrication. This one doesn’t. The RetraxPRO MX glides open and closed on sealed ball-bearing rollers that never need grease and won’t jam or freeze up in bad weather. The handle pops up so you can slide the cover with one hand, and it locks down anywhere along the rails. That means you can leave part of the bed open for oversized gear while keeping smaller items covered and secure near the bulkhead.

A lot of covers flex or dent the first time something heavy hits them. The RetraxPRO MX is built from 1" thick, impact-resistant aluminum that can support up to 500 lbs evenly distributed. Whether it’s snow piling up or gear stacked on top, the cover stays solid and flat. The matte black finish resists scratches and fading, so it keeps looking good even after years in the sun and weather.

Keeping water and dust out of your bed is key if you haul tools or gear often. The RetraxPRO MX uses a full sealing system with automotive-grade weather strip and foam seals that conform to your bed rails. It overlaps the top of your tailgate to block out rain and snow, while two drain tubes route any water that gets into the canister out through factory bed holes. The result is cargo that stays cleaner and drier in any season.

When you roll the cover open, it disappears neatly into a low-profile canister at the front of the bed. The spiral track inside keeps the panels from rubbing together, so they don’t wear out over time. The canister’s angled bottom leaves more space underneath for long tools or smaller items, and because the cover mounts just 1" above the bed rails, it keeps a clean, streamlined look without bulky edges.

Getting a secure fit doesn’t have to mean breaking out the drill. The RetraxPRO MX clamps directly onto the bed rails with included hardware. The cover comes preinstalled in the canister, so setup is straightforward—just square the rails, bolt them on, and connect the drain tubes. Once installed, it’s ready to use with no adjustments or maintenance needed.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover in matte black. You can upgrade your old tonneau cover and not have to worry about any snapping or hook and loop connections. The RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover is the best way to cover up your truck bed. One of it's great features is, it can be locked anywhere along the rails you please. It's perfect for keeping your gear dry, covering up that fifth wheel head and you can even use it to secure your elongated cargo. The latch itself doubles as a handle. When you're ready to lock it, it sits flush within the cover and you can lock it up with the included keys.
When you've done that you can put the cover over top. The whole thing rolls up into the flush mounted box for a low profile design. It only takes up about 12 inches of space behind your cab. It's a simple clamp on installation and the rails only sit about an 1-1/4" high on top of our truck bed rails. Here on the inside they take up about 1-3/4". The sealed ball bearing rollers within the cover make opening and closing easy.
And because they're sealed, they're maintenance free. The whole thing is made out of an industrial strength aluminum, it's gonna keep out the elements and it can support distributed loads of up to 500 pounds. When used with the locking tailgate, it's furthers your security. The whole thing is UV protected and it features a limited lifetime warranty. It's an easy no drill installation, it simply attaches to your truck bed rails with the provided clamps. And that's going to complete our look at the RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover.

After about a year owning this cover, I still would buy it again. If you set it up right in the first place, it will work flawlessly. The locking mechanism still works great. The rolling part still works great. Aside from a solid cover, this is the most secure cover I have ever had. It does get some drips of water inside after washing the truck but its not enough to worry about, even if you had a bed full of stuff.

So on the plus side, love how it opens all the way up. When were loading the bed for travel, I need it fully open. Downside is the amount of room the canister takes up and the water as previously mentioned. Still quite easy to use!

Install looks great Jesse! We couldn’t agree more about the instructions. Honestly, unclear instructions are exactly why we started making our own install videos many moons ago, because seeing it done can make all the difference. It’s good to hear the cover feels solid and slides smoothly once installed. Your notes on water sealing and debris are fair, especially with RamBox-equipped beds and tailgate fitment. We appreciate you sharing your experience, and we hope it continues to serve you well over time.
