Opening and closing this cover is simple. The RetraxPRO MX slides along sealed ball-bearing rollers that don’t need grease and won’t bind or freeze, even after years of use. The pop-up locking handle gives you one-hand control to move the cover anywhere along the rails, and then you can latch it in place. There are no pull straps or snaps to fight with—just a clean, solid motion that makes it easy to get full bed access whenever you need it.

When you close and lock this cover, your cargo stays out of sight and protected. The 1" thick aluminum slats resist dents and impact, while the handle’s concealed lock hides under a weather-guarded lid to keep out dirt and moisture. You can secure the cover at any point along the rails, so longer gear can extend past the tailgate while smaller items stay covered near the bulkhead. With the tailgate locked, your bed becomes a secure compartment that can’t be pried open or cut through.

Rain, dust, or snow—this cover is built to handle all of it. Weather stripping and foam seals line every edge to keep moisture and grit out. Two drain tubes at the bottom of the canister carry away any water that does get inside, keeping the rolled-up cover from staying damp. The design overlaps the top of the tailgate for an extra barrier against leaks, so your gear stays dry no matter what season it is.

The heavy-duty aluminum build supports up to 500 lbs of evenly distributed weight when closed, giving it real strength without looking bulky. The matte black finish resists scratches and fading, keeping a clean look even after years in harsh sun or rough weather. Side rails sit just 1" above the bed for a near-flush fit that keeps your truck lines smooth while still leaving enough clearance for large items beneath the cover.

Getting this cover on your truck doesn’t require drilling or special tools. The rails clamp right onto your bed rails, while the preassembled canister drops into place with a second set of hands. Once squared up and tightened down, you’re ready to roll—literally—with a retractable cover that installs cleanly and stays put mile after mile.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover in matte black. You can upgrade your old tonneau cover and not have to worry about any snapping or hook and loop connections. The RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover is the best way to cover up your truck bed. One of it's great features is, it can be locked anywhere along the rails you please. It's perfect for keeping your gear dry, covering up that fifth wheel head and you can even use it to secure your elongated cargo. The latch itself doubles as a handle. When you're ready to lock it, it sits flush within the cover and you can lock it up with the included keys.
When you've done that you can put the cover over top. The whole thing rolls up into the flush mounted box for a low profile design. It only takes up about 12 inches of space behind your cab. It's a simple clamp on installation and the rails only sit about an 1-1/4" high on top of our truck bed rails. Here on the inside they take up about 1-3/4". The sealed ball bearing rollers within the cover make opening and closing easy.
And because they're sealed, they're maintenance free. The whole thing is made out of an industrial strength aluminum, it's gonna keep out the elements and it can support distributed loads of up to 500 pounds. When used with the locking tailgate, it's furthers your security. The whole thing is UV protected and it features a limited lifetime warranty. It's an easy no drill installation, it simply attaches to your truck bed rails with the provided clamps. And that's going to complete our look at the RetraxPro MX Hard Tonneau Cover.

After about a year owning this cover, I still would buy it again. If you set it up right in the first place, it will work flawlessly. The locking mechanism still works great. The rolling part still works great. Aside from a solid cover, this is the most secure cover I have ever had. It does get some drips of water inside after washing the truck but its not enough to worry about, even if you had a bed full of stuff.

So on the plus side, love how it opens all the way up. When were loading the bed for travel, I need it fully open. Downside is the amount of room the canister takes up and the water as previously mentioned. Still quite easy to use!

Install looks great Jesse! We couldn’t agree more about the instructions. Honestly, unclear instructions are exactly why we started making our own install videos many moons ago, because seeing it done can make all the difference. It’s good to hear the cover feels solid and slides smoothly once installed. Your notes on water sealing and debris are fair, especially with RamBox-equipped beds and tailgate fitment. We appreciate you sharing your experience, and we hope it continues to serve you well over time.
