These Titan Chain diamond-pattern chains are great winter weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get frequent snow and ice, these chains are perfect because they're durable and easy to mount. The links on these chains are thicker than the links on most other low-profile snow chains on the market, so they'll wear better and last longer. But they're still lightweight and compact, so they store in your vehicle nicely too. If you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with V-bar links that can really bite into the ice to give you maximum traction.
These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install because they have built-in tensioners that you can just pull taut to adjust the fit. These tensioners allow the chains to fit your tires, no matter the profile or wear pattern. And because the tensioners are built-in, you never have to worry about losing them like you might with other chains on the market.
If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.
We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.
You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.
Installing these chains is incredibly simple.
1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.
2. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.
3. Connect the ends of the cable, which will sit behind the tire.
4. Around front, connect the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook at the top of the tire.
5. At the bottom of the tire, feed the silver tensioning chain through the red channel bracket and pull it taut. Then run the tensioner through as many red clips along the side chain as you can, leaving room to still be able to stretch the hook across the tire.
6. Attach the hook to the side chain directly across from the last clip you ran the tensioner through. The hook should face away from your tire. Pull your vehicle forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the tension.
How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle
To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Zach: Hey guys, Zach here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Titan chain alloy snow tire chains on our 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe. I've got these on a tire size of 235/65/R17. These are going to be a really nice option to give you a little bit more heavy duty option for your Santa Fe. They're not going to be real big beefy chains that you're maybe seeing on bigger vehicles, but compared to some of the other options, they're going to do a better job at getting you good traction in snow and ice compared to like the rollers or even like the smaller dealing style like we have here.Something that really separates this one compared to some others is the ease of installation and the self-tensioning device. So I don't have to crawl underneath the vehicle and make a connection behind the tire.
I just drape them over, make a couple connections, and then it's got a built-in self tensioner here. So it's pretty simple to use. I can get back in the car and get safely going down the road. The self tensioner, what that does is it takes the slack. So these are not a complete universal chain. They're going to fit multiple different tire sizes.
So they do have a little bit of play to accommodate that. So what you do is you use this and you take that tension out. Where other chains, you have to buy an additional piece that grabs the chains and pulls them tight. So having it all built in and not having to dig through the trunk or misplacing it in the off season is a really nice feature. If you take a closer look at the chains here, what makes these really good for working out in snow and ice is that diamond pattern that they offer compared to a ladder style that just has a roller or a chain that goes across every so many inches. This gives us maximum tire coverage.
That's really going to grip down into that snow to get us going. It's going to be a better traction when we're turning. And also whenever we're slowing down on ice, it's really going to kind of grip down into that ice to give us a better stopping performance.I do want to point out that these are going to be a little bit beefier than the rollers and some of the other smaller link style, but they still give you a really smooth ride. And especially, you want to keep in mind that these are going to have a maximum speed rating of 30 miles per hour. You're not going to want to go that fast anyway if you're in the conditions that need these chains. So these are going to be a really good mix between good traction, but also a smoother ride since they aren't the biggest chains in the world.
Another thing to keep in mind, they are made of a manganese nickel alloy. So they are going to be rust resistant. And the cool thing is they come with this reusable tote that's going to keep them nice and neat in the back of your vehicle when you're not using them. I would recommend after you have used them to let them dry off a little bit before you put them back in here. But overall, I like these chains.I think they're going to do a good job of getting you back on the road safely. They're not very difficult to install, so let's show you how we got them installed. Before you get your chains installed I advise you though to lay them out, kind of make sure you don't have any kinks. You don't have anything that's broken. I also would suggest testing this out before you really need to put them on, because it's a good idea to have a good understanding of how they work, but you're also going to want to make sure on these ends here where the chain connects to these cables, they've kind of got an open side and a closed side. So I like that closed loop side to face my tire.So you're going to have those facing down on the ground before you put these on and you'll take this gray side and you'll feed it around the backside of your tire. And then the yellow side will be back here. We'll get that around. We'll come around here and get that set around. We can take this gray side here and the yellow side and we'll meet them right at the top of the tire.So we can bring those back here and they just connect just like that. Pretty easy. So let that sit there. Bring the rest of the chain around, just kind of feed it around. So it's kind of sitting even like that. And then we can come here for the green pieces and we've got a couple extra links of the yellow chain and we'll feed that to one another. And I'll start with that middle there. Seems like a good spot to start and we can make our way down to the bottom. And you'll see this red piece here. So it has two different sides. One is open and one is closed. You want that closed side to rest against the tire. And then we can take the gray chain on the other side and we'll feed it through that opening. And it has this little groove right here that catches the chain once you've gotten the tension or you've got it tight. So you don't want any slack in there. And then what you can do is you can bring this excess chain through this red loop, and then you can kind of go anywhere that you'd like on this yellow chain.Just make sure you're keeping some tension. So I think that if we went right here, it wouldn't provide enough because we do have a little play down here. So if we bring this back to itself, we might be able to get it to kind of pull some of that slack out of there, which it does. So then, we've got nice tight chain all the way around. And once you get this chain in place, you can repeat the same process for the other side. I think it's a good idea to drive forward a little bit, maybe five, 10 feet, get out and check to make sure that they're still tight, make any adjustments as needed. But that'll do it for our look at the Titan chain alloy snow tire chains on our 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe..

Get consistent traction and a smooth ride when driving in snow and on ice. Long-lasting links are thicker than what you find on other low-profile chains. Color-coding and built-in tensioners ensure fast, easy installation and a tight fit.It is great to receive a product that is exactly what it is advertised as. We used this on a recent trip to WV. The community we stayed in required tire chains. We were in compliance and were able to easily and safely navigate the slippery ice/snow up the hill with these bad boys in our FWD vehicle. The installation video was a huge help. We were able to install the chains with two people in about 5 minutes on our first try.
We also were very pleased with how quickly the product came to our home (2 days) after submitting an order. Also, love the case that holds the tire chains.
Product was delivered on time as promised. I have tried them on my tire and seem to fit. I am a novice. The chains seem simple to use. My 16 year daughter was able to make a tiktok video while learning how to install
Great product and fantastic service too. I have only tried on the chains and have not driven in them yet but the case and quality of the items were very good and they were very cheap too. After my order they contacted me because the items were still on route to their warehouse and could not be distributed however they kept me in the loop all the way and provided a tracking number too. They came in just over a week so considering that they had a delay on receiving the item at their end and it had to cross east to west coast plus free delivery thrown in I was very impressed with the service I received. Apologies but can't comment on the actual chains as I haven't used them in anger yet however they were really easy to fit without the instructions, takes about a minute and all the different parts are colour coded. The Alloy chains are rust preventative but they feel heavy duty with a good all round pattern for extra forward and leeway grip, not a tacky or cheap feeling product, the case is pretty heavy when packed away so quite happy so far. Hope this helps.
Great product and excellent service. I originally ordered a chain from Konig and chose expedited shipping because I needed them to arrive in time for an upcoming trip to the Sierras. It was on a Sunday afternoon and within an hour I received a call from someone at etrailer letting me know that the product I had ordered was on back order and suggested this Titan model which was in stock (and less expensive!). They shipped the next day and I received them in time.
I did use them on my 2018 Highlander on the trip. They installed easily, fit well and the traction was excellent even when driving up hills on local Tahoe roads in a major snowstorm. Highly recommended.
I bought a set for my F250 Super Duty and another set for my Fifth Wheel Trailer. Arrived in good shape and the carry case is awesome, made it very easy for storage when not in use. Followed the install direction and very easy installed without having to drive over them like my older set. Very pleased with this product.
The stiff inner cable and a rubber tensioner makes instalation easy when I practiced putting them on. The carrying case is nice to keep everything ready until use. The chains are made for a few tire sizes, so I only used one of two tensioning loops attached to the chains. Etrailer's shipping was lightning fast and arrived before promised arrival date. Very happy with the transaction and chains. Hope I dont have to use them but glad to have them.
etrailer has more than met my expectation. I needed to return two sets of tire chains that would not work on my vehicles. etrailer made it very easy and FREE. I ordered two different sets and just tried them on. They fit great! It's this level of service that makes a company thrive!
Thanks etrailer!
Huge selection, competitive prices and ultra fast shipping. Product was exactly as advertised, couldn't be more satisfied.
Came in a nice case, I haven't used these yet but the reviews were very good so decided to go with these
Jessica was very helpful selecting which chains to purchase. They fit well, the price was very competitive and arrived quickly. I had to deliver some material to a mountain location and needed to go down a couple of steep inclines. I put chains on all four tires of my truck and one axle on the trailer. I didn't have any slipping or sliding on an icy snow-packed road.
I put these chains on and they lasted less than one slow-driving (under 30mph) mile. Despite proper installation, both of them broke in different ways (seems like multiple weak points). One use and they failed me, in snow, got me deep into a predicament that I had to work quite a bit to get out of. I am worse off than when I started - and I had to pay a lot to be stranded. In my assessment, these chains are garbage and actually quite [not allowed to make "suggestions that may affect safety/warranty]. Contacted etrailer about it, brushed off referring to the 30-day limitation. There is no concern for proper function, likely just the bottomline. Value your money and go elsewhere.
I have a 2018 Suburban Premier with the 22” wheels and 285/45R22 tires. I purchased two sets of these chains (four chains in all) for a trip to Mammoth California at the beginning of March 2023 during a record snow season. I was really glad that I had them as I had them all four wheels for most of a week, taking them off and putting them on at least 5 times. Part of the time I had them on I was pulling a 6x12 UHaul trailer. These chains worked flawlessly and provided a huge amount of extra traction on top of my Michelin Defender LTS M/S tires. I was a bit concerned that using the chains may cause some damage to may alloy wheels, but that did not happen. If you put them on correctly, the wheels don’t get damaged at all. The etrailer videos that show how to put the chains on accurately portray the ease of doing that. Even after a week of pretty constant use, the chains don’t show much wear at all. I would absolutely buy these again.
For ease of installation, these snow chains are great! The only problem I had was on my right rear, the tensioning chain could not be tightened enough going through the rings the way the instructions showed. I ended up going to the far ring first, then back to the middle, then across the wheel. Only for tensioning (doesn’t pull the chains offsides at all), so I think my solution worked well. Kelsey S. was a wonder to work with! This was my first foray into snow chains, so she guided me through my options, explaining every benefit and need for the ice/snow conditions expected. I put the chains on my 2015 Ram 2500 4x4 long bed relatively quickly considering my inexperience.
I'm very happy with my snow chains! The chains are easy to install, the carrying case is great, the instructions are very clear, and George and Carol from etrailer provided great customer service! The chains are well-priced and are comparable to the Grizzlar Diamond tire chains.
No snow yet but the practice installation went great! So simple my 6 year-old helped make sure I was following the instructions properly. Time will tell if I need them and how they work in the upcoming North Idaho snow plowing season. Fit great on my 275/70R18 tires. I appreciate the carrying case they came with, also!
These chains were amazing! I was a bit hesitant to go with chains over cables due to the car's manual saying to use cables, but after talking to Bob at etrailer, and watching the install videos, I went with them (on all four tires) and am glad I did! We went up to Yosemite for the New Year, and it snowed the day we drove in. We got through the gate into the park without needing chains, but once inside, the roads started to get covered, and though we have AWD, we don't have snow tires and the chains seemed like the best option. We pulled over and had the chains on all four tires within about 20 minutes. The car ran like a tank through the snow (and later, ice-covered roads) and I'm really happy we went with the chains rather than cables. After putting on the chains, we drove about 100 yards to check and tighten them. They were actually pretty tight - only had to tighten one. They really really came in handy driving through the Yosemite Valley, and the email responses I got from Bob prior to buying these showed me great customer service. The shipping speed was top notch as well, and overall, I'm happy that we went with etrailer to get these chains for our snow-covered trip to Yosemite.
While the snow chains were easier to use than traditional snow chains, one of the links broke within the first day of use. I was driving less than 20 mph on snowy/icy roads so I don't know what went wrong. It was very frustrating to have the snow chains break almost immediately. As such, I cannot recommend this product.
These chains are Awesome in every way! I live at 7500' on a mesa in W.new mexico, winter is get to town in the morning early while the roads are still frozen. . . otherwise its mud\snow\rock\ice, in a steady uphill climb. . . These chains go on so fast, (like 5min for a set). I use them on a 2001 AWD\4WD Expedition... FRONT end only and while I get some rear end sliding, the fronts just never break loose at all
First, overall I will say I like these chains. I have used cables before as well as cheaper chains and found them more difficult to put on (in the case of the chains) and did not provide as great of traction.
When these chains are on they work great. They're pretty easy to put on and the traction in deep snow and on ice is great.
Unfortunately, one of my chains completely broke apart when I was driving the mountain rode in a bit of ice and slush. I was going about 25 and I had properly secured and tightened them before heading out. I doubled back to pick them up off the road and the metal was completely broken, so there was no salvaging that. I had used them only 4-5 times and dry them off after each use, so I'm pretty disappointed it did not last long at all. I reordered a pair in hopes the last one was a fluke and now have a backup chain in case one breaks again, but will update this after a few more trips with the new chains. Overall, they work great when they work, but the build quality is now in question.
Works well, I suggest adding additional tensioner if you don’t want any slack.
Loved the product
This is actually my second set of these chains, my first set loosened up quite a bit and weren't very stable at speeds over 20 MPH. Overall, fantastic set! I know these aren't supposed to last a lifetime by any means, but still got about 2 seasons of mountain/snow wear and use with them. Price is right, install is easy once you know and understand how to put them on. Pro Tip- I went to staples and got the instruction sheet laminated, it helped tremendously, especially when you need to do a quick reference on the side of a road.
I've fit these chains once. Super easy to put on, super easy to take off. Bought these for my trips to Tahoe. Although my truck is 4x4, it's worth it to have these chains in case I need them.
They seem like good chains, but they don't seem to fit my 2021 Toyota Sienna AWD tires like it said they should (235/65/17). The tensioner chain is too short for me to pull tension on adjacent yellow chains and I am worried this will negatively impact the chains stability on my tires. I can barely get the rubber tensioner through the first red ring after pulling and readjusting several times. This is my first time using snow tire chains... Would someone with experience be able to let me know if this is OK or if I should buy some different chains?
I got the chains and tired them on tonight and they seem big. With the tension all the way tight there was still slop in the chain system. It definitely seems like they could tighten more. The instructions show a few inches of available tension when the chains are on plus I had to loop the bungee cord around another section of chain to get any tightness. It just does not seem like the proper fit and may cause issue when in use. Is there a smaller size or another tire chain that would better fit a 275/65R18 tire???
