1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Today, we're gonna take a look at the Americana 10 inch by 6 inch black machined AM02 series aluminum trailer wheel with the four on four inch bolt pattern. Now, this is an aluminum wheel. It's durable, lightweight, and rust-proof. We mentioned it's the Americana AM02 series, which you can see is a split four spoke design, has a black finish and then they do a machine finish on the face of the spoke and on the lip of the wheel to give a nice shine to the wheel. The split spoke design is unique and appealing.
Now, the front and the back of the wheel are all clear coated to protect against scuffs and scratches. Now, one of the nice features I like on this wheel is right here in the lug nut wells, they have these steel inserts that are pressed into the lug nut wells. They are designed to help keep your wheel securely in place on your trailer hub. Basically, when you put this up on the hub, put it on the studs, you put your lug nuts down, torque them down, those inserts prevent the holes from wearing down or elongating over time. It eliminates the need for constant re-tightening of your lug nuts.
This is a high-quality wheel. It does meet the DOT Department of Transportation specifications. Few dimensions on this, we're gonna measure the diameter and the width. And the diameter on a wheel is always gonna be measured inside to inside. So you can see if we put our tape measure on it, there's your 10 inch diameter.
The width is the same way, measured inside to inside or bead seat to bead seat. There's your six inch width. And the bolt pattern on this wheel is a four on four inch bolt pattern. And if you want to measure the bolt pattern on a wheel that's an even number of lugs, like in this case four, it's pretty simple because the lug holes are directly across from each other. So you just pick one of the holes, let's say this one, measure from the center of this hole directly across to the center of the hole right across from it.
So on this wheel, it will a measure four inches. So it's a four-lug four inch bolt pattern. This does use a wheel lug size of 1/2 inch by 20. And the pilot hole diameter right here in the center, diameter on this opening is 2.5 inches. Load capacity on this wheel is 1,500 pounds. But that should do it for a look at the Americana 10 inch by 6 inch black machined AM02 series aluminum trailer wheel with the four on four inch bolt pattern.
