Features to know about

Steady Support for Heavy Loads: 5-Leaf Slipper Spring Handles 10,000-lb Axles

Big loads need real muscle, not just replacement parts. This 5-leaf slipper spring gives each axle a 5,000-lb spring capacity and supports a 10,000-lb axle setup. The multiple steel leaves flex together to absorb road shock and keep the trailer level even when the surface gets rough. It’s built to take the weight without sagging out or losing shape over time.

Smooth, Controlled Ride on Rough Roads: 30-1/2" Long Flexing Design

Long hauls or uneven ground can shake a trailer apart. At 30-1/2" from the center of the spring eye to the end, this spring flexes to keep the ride smooth and the load steady. It helps reduce bounce and sway, cutting down the wear on your frame and cargo. The flat-end slipper design lets the rear slide into the hanger or equalizer for consistent movement that softens the bumps mile after mile.

Built to Last Under Pressure: 3" Wide, 3/8" Thick Steel Leaves

Strength starts with the materials. Each of the five 3/8"-thick steel leaves is stacked for durability and shaped to handle constant flexing. The 3" width adds stability and helps keep the axle aligned with the frame. You can count on it to hold up under heavy, high-mileage use where lighter springs would start to give out.

Ready for Secure Mounting: 1" Eye with Rubber Bushing

A solid mount keeps the suspension tight and responsive. The front eye comes fitted with a 1"-inner-diameter rubber bushing that cushions the connection and cuts down metal-to-metal noise. It fits snugly on the hanger with a suspension bolt, while the rear slipper end slides into place for a simple, reliable setup.

Reliable Replacement for Worn or Sagging Springs: Pair Installation Recommended

Old springs can stretch and throw off alignment, so it’s best to replace them in pairs. Swapping both sides restores balance, keeps the axles square, and brings back smooth, even suspension performance. This 5-leaf slipper spring is a direct fit for heavy-duty setups that need dependable support and a ride that stays level under load.

Video Transcript for All About the Dexter 5-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Flat End for 10,000-lb Trailer Axles

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Dexter 30 1/2 inch long five-leaf slipper spring, with the flat end for 10,000-pound trailer axles. Now, this is a slipper leaf spring, which acts as part of your trailer suspension system. This'll provide the attachment point for your trailer's axle. This does use multiple leaves to allow flexibility and absorb road shock. The number of leaves it uses five.

And this does allow for a nice, smooth ride, it reduces the wear and tear on the trailer, and it ensures a level ride on bumpy and uneven surfaces. Now, to install this leaf spring, it does require pre-mounted hangers or aftermarket hanger kit for installation. We do sell those items separately on our website. The eye of the spring, right on this end, will attach to a hanger that's mounted on your trailer frame, and the slipper end right here slides into a hanger or an equalizer. This is a sturdy steel construction.

It does use a rubber bushing with a steel sleeve, and that is included in there. The eye diameter of that steel sleeve is one inch. Few specs on this, this is for a quantity of one leaf spring. Spring capacity is 5,000 pounds. It is designed to work on an axle capacity of 10,000 pounds.

Now, a couple measurements on this. We're gonna measure the length of the spring, and that's always measured from the center of the spring eye to the end of the spring. So, if we take our tape measure, and if we go to the center, to the very end, you can see, there's your 30 1/2 inch measurement. Now, the axle location is the other measurement. Your axle will go right in the center of the spring right here, so the measurement for the axle location is the center of the eye to the very center of the spring itself.

So, center to center, you can see, is right at 13 1/2 inches. The width on this spring is three inches. But that should do it for the review on the Dexter 30 1/2 inch long five-leaf slipper spring with the flat end for 10,000 pound Dexter axles..

Usually you are completely on top of your game. This time my company is slightly disappointed in the timeframe of events. We stock checked all parts prior to ordering but then found out after the order was placed some were not in stock. Nobody reached out to let us know the parts were out of stock or asked if we would like to have the rest of the order shipped while waiting for the remaining out of stock items. Once we called we were able to get things moving however the shipment still was not expedited and took an additional extra five days.

  • Specs for the Dexter 5-Leaf Slipper Spring W/ Flat End for 10K Axles
Bruce, the Dexter 5-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Flat End for 10,000-lb Trailer Axles # DX65QR is not the same as the Dexter 072-080-01, so yes the specs are correct. The spring you're referencing is the Dexter 5-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Flat End for 10,000-lb Trailer Axles # DX23QR which is 2 1/2" wide, and has a 3/4" eye bolt hole.

  • Axle Placement and Suspension System for 20,000 lb Bumper Pull Trailer
For your trailer, the axle placement will dictate the hanger placement as will whether you use double eye springs or slipper springs. When positioning a trailer axle or adding an additional axle, the key is to make sure that the axles are located in just the right position so that roughly 10 to 15 percent of the total trailer weight is placed on the tongue. For a heavy duty trailer like you reference I recommend using the slipper spring # DX65QR along with the Dexter Tandem-Axle Trailer...
