Tips for Replacing and Installing Trailer Fenders

  • Do your best to match the dimensions of the new fender to your old one.
    • If a fender was damaged during a blowout, use the opposite fender to get the dimensions.
  • As with all trailer maintenance, don't forget to chock your wheels before getting started.
  • For a bolt-on fender, use your existing mounting hardware, if possible.
    • The old mounting bolts or screws might be stripped or rusted, in which case you'll need to tap them out and buy new hardware.
  • If removing an old, welded-on fender, either carefully chisel it off yourself or take your trailer to a weld shop to have the fender professionally removed.
  • Don't forget to prime and paint the new fender to keep it from rusting (and to match your trailer's finish).
  • Before you start drilling, position the fender where you need it and center it over your wheel well.
    • Mark where you need to drill (measure twice, drill once).
  • Don't tighten down the mounting hardware completely until you're sure the fender is mounted correctly.

Video Transcript for Review of etrailer Trailer Fenders - Single Axle Fender Master Craft Boat Trailer - HP93VR

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this replacement single-axle trailer fender for your MasterCraft boat trailers. This steel fender is gonna be a perfect fit for your single-axle MasterCraft boat trailer. Built from sturdy steel, it is designed to cover one tire and protect your boat and other vehicles from road debris, and let me go ahead and retrieve my tape measure here and give you some measurements. So looking at the overall height, which I do have this sitting up a little bit higher than my table so I can give it a turn, so trying to give you that measurement as best as I can with the way that I have it set up.

The overall height is pretty close to 14 inches tall, and then the overall length from end to end, holding that still, making sure I got enough length there, we're gonna be sitting right at 32 inches long. I know that's kind of shaky there, but hopefully you can see that. 32 inches long end-to-end, and then the overall width right at 9 inches. So this fender does feature this flat back and mounting flange as you can see there. So it's gonna sit flush against your trailer, giving you a clean, secure fit.

It's a close fit that also helps prevent like dirt buildup between the fender and the trailer. While we have on the other side here this 1-inch rounded outer edge, it's going to add a finished look. You're gonna be able to easily get this bolted on. It is ready for primer and paint. That's where you're gonna get that corrosion resistance, so, as you know, as soon as you get this installed, make sure you prime it and paint it to match your trailer, and not only will it look great, but you won't have to worry about this rusting out or getting corroded.

Now this does weigh roughly eight pounds, the fender's strong, it's practical. (solid metallic banging) Again, it's gonna be easy to install. As you see, we do have mounting holes here that are going to accept mounting brackets. That's something you're gonna have to pick up separately, the brackets and the hardware. You're just going to be getting the fender.

If you have any other questions, whether it's about this fender or anything else that we carry, don't hesitate to reach out. We wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need. Well, again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

  • How to Determine Replacement Axle for a 1997 Venture Boat Trailer
Sure thing, Paul. To find the correct replacement, you're going to need to do is look for a tag on your axle. With it being so old, there is a good chance it's not there, so in that case you can also measure the diameter of the axle, and let me know what bearings you're using. If you can get that back info back to me, I'd be happy to see what we have.
