Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Timken replacement trailer wheel bearing. This is a high-quality 2585 tapered roller bearing. It's gonna replace an outer bearing for your 8-232-5 hub. And now if you need some extra reassurance that this is going to work with your hub and you can see this does use that industry standard number. It's got that printed on the inner circle there of the cone.

So if you see that number on your current bearing or the one that you're replacing, you can trust it is gonna be a very simple swap out. Put this one in place of the current one. Another way, if you don't see that number on your bearing is to check the race. Typically, those will have the number on them as well. So this bearing is gonna be compatible with all those races that you see on the screen there.

So great way to double check, make sure that it's gonna be compatible. If you don't see any of those numbers on the bearing or the race, or if you don't see any numbers, rather, the third option would be to measure. So we'll measure the inner diameter here. Now, that is gonna be very precise, so I would recommend using some calipers, some digital calipers that go down to a thousandth of an inch. So you can see here with these, our inner diameter is 1.313 inches.

So again, it's gonna be much easier if you can just see that industry standard number there on your bearing that you're replacing. But if not, you can measure it there. And this is gonna be a very high quality. That's gonna ensure tighter tolerances and runout than your other manufacturers, which in turn will then help to reduce any vibrations and noise and lead to longer bearing life when you have it properly installed.
