When you need your entire bed for hauling gear or larger loads, the BAKFlip MX4 makes it easy. The tri-fold aluminum panels flip up in sections, letting you open part of the bed or all of it in seconds. Prop rods keep the cover locked upright so you can drive with the bed fully open. The integrated buckle system secures it whether folded, flipped up, or closed, so it stays put no matter how you’re using it.
Keeping your cargo dry matters when you’re driving through rain, snow, or slush. The MX4 uses matte black rubber seals and a built-in drainage system along the rails to help channel water out of the bed. The rear seal allows you to open or close the tailgate with the cover up or down, keeping a tight fit that helps block dust and moisture from getting in.
This cover isn’t just for looks—it’s built tough. Each panel is 1/2" thick, made from rustproof aluminum with a premium density foam core for strength. It’s rated to hold up to 400 lbs of evenly distributed weight, so you can set gear or tools on top without worrying about flexing or sagging. The panels automatically latch when closed, locking securely when your tailgate is locked, giving you solid protection without adding bulky hardware.
The MX4’s matte black finish looks sharp and stays that way. It’s resistant to scratches, scuffs, and UV rays, so it won’t fade or chalk over time. The low-profile fit sits flush inside the bed rails, keeping your truck’s clean lines intact while cutting down on wind drag for a more aerodynamic look.
Because the MX4 mounts inside the bed rails, you can still use stake-pocket or raised-side-rail accessories like ladder or kayak racks. That means you can haul extra gear up top while keeping the bed protected underneath. The aircraft-grade aluminum rails clamp on with no drilling required, so installation is quick and solid without any permanent changes.

Katie Osborne: Katie Osborne with trucks hero here to tell you what makes this Backflip MX for the number one selling hard truck bed cover on the market. The aluminum encased panels provide security and weather protection when closed. And when folded open, it provides full bed access, plus you can then drive it around town by securing it with a prop rod. And of course, this low profile matte black finish looks great on any truck.

The BAKFlip after 2 years is still functioning great. I fixed the curling cushion by applying some strong adhesive to the spots that had detached, taped it in place and let cure for a couple of days. That solved that issue. Would continue to recommend the BAKFlip to others.

You mentioned that the glue holding the pads are failing. I wanted to see if you would be able to send a picture to show the locations.

The cover is still excellent and keeps our items dry and secure on those road trips. I stand by my initial review and still wish the weatherstripping would stick the the spray in liner better but its only been a minor annoyance that hasnt resulted in any water getting into the bed.

Thanks for the great feedback! We're glad you're enjoying the tonneau cover and that being able to use almost the entire truck bed when it's open has been such a big plus. It's also nice knowing your gear stays secure when you lock the tailgate. We appreciate you mentioning the clamps too—that kind of feedback is always helpful. Thanks again, and we hope you keep enjoying your new cover!
