An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall when loaded. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride when loaded or towing because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for Review of the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System-TWRW32

Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Timbren rear suspension enhancement system. These are Aeon hollow rubber springs. These are gonna replace the actual bump stops on the frame of your motorhome to help improve the handling and safety of your motorhome. These do have a custom fit bracket, so they are going to work with several different models.

Your early 2,000 motorhomes. Including specific year ranges of the makes and models that you see on the screen there. To ensure that these are going to work for you, I would highly encourage you to come to etrailer.com. We have a vehicle fit guide, so you can just select your year, make and model of your motorhome. And it will ensure that these are the right fit for you.

Or if they're not, we'll have other components that will be a fit for your motorhome, to help you make sure that everything's gonna work well for you. But these are specific brackets, so it's gonna be very easy to get these installed right in place of those factory bump stops. Basically, just have to pull those factory bump stops off, put these in their place, and you're gonna be ready to go. You're not gonna have to worry about drilling, or customizing, or anything like that. So, these are gonna do a really good job.

Providing additional support to your motorhome. To give you a more smooth and more comfortable ride as you're going down the road. These do have a weight capacity of 6,000 pounds. Now, when you hear that, it's very tempting to think that that means that these are going to increase your motorhome's carrying capacity by 6,000 pounds and that's not the case. There's no vehicle suspension enhancement system that I'm aware of that will increase your vehicle's or motorhome's carrying capacity, because this is just one component in a whole setup system.

So, these are going to be less like a second set of hands that's helping you lift more weight. Think of them more like a back brace. So, they're there to just kind of help give support. Make sure that your suspension is not going to be taking too heavy of a load. It's gonna help to just improve the suspension system. It's not going to help it carry any more weight. These are a rubber spring. So, that's gonna be really nice in ensuring that it's going to give us a nice cushion effect. So if we have a light load, our tanks are getting close to being empty, that sort of thing, they're not gonna engage very hard. They're gonna be nice and soft to kind of give us that more comfortable cushion effect. If we have full tanks of water full for the weekend or whatnot, these will help to engage a little bit more firm, more weight we put on them. So, it would give us a little bit more support to compensate for that heavy load. These will act as shock absorbers. So, as we're going down the road, if we hit potholes and that sort of thing, we're going to take the brunt of those bumps and shocks. So, it's gonna make it a much smoother ride for us, and help to extend our suspension's life. These do work independently. So, there's gonna be one on your driver's side, and one on your passenger side. And again, they do absorb that shock and weight independently. So, you have all your water tanks on one side. This side is going to get firmer to help support that weight. And the other side is not gonna be affected at all, so it's still available to have that nice light, shock absorbing capability. So it's gonna be really nice, especially for helping to reduce your body roll when you're swerving or taking corners. It's gonna help to work independently to make that a nice, smooth ride for you to help with your motorhome. Obviously, motorhomes tend to be very top heavy, so you get a lot of sway. These will help to alleviate some of that, so that you get a little bit more balance to feel like you're more in control. These do come with a limited lifetime warranty. So if for any reason, once you get them installed, they're not doing what you thought they we're gonna do, you can return them. You can always reach out to us. We're always happy to work with our customers. Make sure that you're getting a good quality product. But overall, I think you're gonna be very happy with this. There are several other options that you can add on in addition to these, to help with that stability. There's sway bars and that sort of thing. So, this might not be the end all of your enhancement process. There might be others that you want to consider adding on as well. But these are gonna do a good job of helping to absorb some of that shock for your motorhome, and help that stability. So, really nice option here. If you do have one of those vehicles that this is going to fit. These are gonna be very easy to get installed, so definitely something that you can do on your own. You don't have to take it into a shop, or something like that. And it's gonna be a quick fix to help give you a little bit more stability, and comfort for your motorhome. So, that's gonna complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

They definitely reduced sway and lean when driving. But also seems like you really feel every bump and increase road noise?
I assume since vibration from axle can now travel directly to frame?
Might need to upgrade shocks?
Might soften liitle over time?
Might need to get softer onesv
Only have gone 80 miles with them so far.
Will give it another few hundred miles and see what feel then.

Overall pretty happy So far.

had this product before. left it on my old truck when I traded. Now I have to replace it, really like what it does for my towing a travel trailer. just have to find time to put it on. speedy delivery arrived undamaged, which is nice.

by:

Works great on my 2016 town and country for hauling my pop up camper.

by:

Strainer/basket is holding up well after one year of use in our RV, no issues.

by:

Fast delivery. Disappointed with the instructions. Sense the item was ordered vehicle specific. The instructions said tighten bolts to manufactures specifications.

by:

Works great on my Honda odessey !! Great customer service as always!

by:

Very fast shipping, had product in 2 days! Very easy to install. Hardest part was lifting the RV.

by:

The product first arrived in a damaged box with one of the washers missing, but ETrailer did resupply that. The hardest part was finding a shop able (needs the right tools to depress coil springs) and willing (a potential liability issue messing with suspension) to replace it for a reasonable cost. Eventually a local tire shop agreed to. This was for a 2014 Honda Odyssey, especially for pulling a pop-up. Took two camping trips last summer, one before and one after installation, and I have been pleased with the added stiffness in the rear suspension. It made about 1 to 1.5 inch of difference in resting position when fully loaded and towing and has helped smooth out bumps and humps in the road - both when towing and not.

by:

Have not driven yet, just installed. Added Monroe coil-overs as well, thanks etrailer.

by:

Customer service is exceptional and any questions were answered immediately

by:

Delivery was fast, instal was quick & easy. Later today I will see how they work when I hook up to the 5th wheel. By all indications right now I believe they exceed my expectations.

by:

Good product, I’ve attached a couple photos. The last one is a before and after

by:

I put this product on my Trooper. The install was easy is you take the back wheels off. I towed this weekend and I did not bottom out. If they hold up over time, this is a great product.

by:

I would recommend this product to anyone. I pull trailers with a 1/2 ton truck and will never have another one without this product on it.

by:

Price was good compared to other sites. Shipped very fast. Installation was very easy.

by:

Put them on and it is exactly what I need to keep truck level when hauling fifth wheel. Easy to install too

by:

Excellent quality, good prices and great shipping ! Thanks

by:

Fit and functions as described. Installation was simple on my '05 Silverado.

by:

Did my due diligence researching this product, including other customer reviews.
Can't wait to install them, but the Winnebago has been put to sleep for the season. I'll submit a performance report in the spring.

by:

BIG difference in handling a load or trailer ... what a great product!!!

by:

Great fitment

by:

15 mins to install and what a difference…. Went from a few inches of sag in the rear to only an inch and over 1000lbs tongue weight didn’t know the trailer was attached to the truck

by:

This product was delivered quickly and efficiently. The quality of the product is excellent and look forward to seeing how they work when we are towing our trailer.

by:

Very easy to install

by:

Holding up good a year after purchase, work great for pulling my camper
