Today, we're going to review part number D17117. This is the Derale 17 inch standard rotation fan. It's a clutch fan and is black in color. Now, this fan is designed to replace the factory fan on your vehicle. It has a 8-hole center hub, that will allow you to fit most OE fan clutches. This is a standard rotation, which means it goes clockwise and it produces maximum air flow.
Features the steel hub and the blades are steel. The whole fan is finished in a durable black powder coat finish. Now when you do select a belt-driven fan, the two things you want to make sure of. You want to determine the direction of rotation. This again is the standard rotation, which means it rotates clockwise and it does help you out because if you look on the back of the fan, they'll put a sticker on it and it will tell you. It has an arrow which shows you the rotation.
It will also say this side towards the engine, so you want to mount this towards the engine, so that helps you when you install it. Now, there are some vehicles that will use a reverse rotation, which is a counterclockwise fan. We also sell those on our website, that's part number D17917. It's the same exact fan like this. It is just designed for reverse rotation. The diameter of the fan. The other thing you want to determine when you're selecting a belt-driven fan is the diameter.
The diameter of the measure from the edge of this blade directly across the center to the edge of the blade right across from it. The diameter on this fan, you can see it's 17 inches. What you do want to do is choose the same diameter fan as the fan you're replacing. Now, it also has the flange bolt spacing. I've mentioned it has the 8 holes here in the center hub. The flange bolt spacing, you want to match up when you install this.
You'll use 4 bolts and then this has 8 holes, so you've got 2 different sets at 2 different measurements, so I want to give you those measurements that this will match up to. The first set of holes center to center is 3 inches, that's for these set of holes and then the larger one, set of four is 3-1/4 inches. Now, the flange diameter which is the opening here in the middle, you'll notice it has the 4 tabs right here, so the diameter will have a measurement here, the smaller diameter and then here's the larger diameter. The smaller diameter of your flange would be right at 2 and 3/8 and then the larger measurement of the flange diameter would be 2 and 1930 seconds. Now, the depth from this fan, if I turn it here sideways to give you an idea. The depth which is . Since the blade has a pitch of 27 degrees as you can see here, it gives you a depth to it. It's 2 inches, so this mounting surface is right at the center of that 2 inches, so 1 inch front, 1 inch back right where this mounting surface is. Again, the rotation is clockwise. Now again, the features on this. It is a powder coated black steel. The hub is steel, the blades are steel, and this is designed to give you maximum full time air flow. I use these fans to upgrade my mopars to a clutch fan. I use the hayden 2706 clutch with it. Keeps them running nice and cool. Both in country cruising and the city driving. Verify what size you need. Going bigger may hit the tranny lines. Keep that in mind.
Cools very well! Took a half round file to fit the hub to the fan clutch. Not noticeable loud.
I had been searching for a 12 valve cummins replacement fan for a fee months and found this one noted on a forum. The stock fans are discontinued and junk yards around here want rediculous prices for them. With a little bit of die grinding (could have been done in a few minutes with a round file) it fit right over the dodge cummins clutch. Couldn't be happier. Fits perfect and saved me a large chunk of money. Thanks Derale for making a fan to fit.
This replacement clutch type radiator fan is of very good quality and was a good fit after a couple of minutes of using a round file to slightly bevel the edge where it fits onto the thermal clutch. Making that very simple adjustment was a 'no brainer' not even requiring
the fan to be secured in a vise. I give the product a strong five stars.
I bought a fan for my 84 bronco 2. It fit perfect and the service was great. I was reluctant to buy from e.trailer because I had never heard of them but I decided to go ahead and try them this time and I am glad I did. I recommend them highly.
Had concerns about the smaller diameter. But have not had any cooling issues. Fit and clearances were good. Took forever to get it.
Well constructed from heavy material. Much higher quality than the chinese crap i looked at in the auto parts store. As expected it is a little more noisy than the stock fan, but it provides a ton more air flow. So far om very happy with this product.
Overall great product, this application was to replace the factory 19.25" fan one a Ford F-350 with the 7.5 liter gas engine, it required shifting the fan shroud over 1/4" to allow for blade clearance, pulls more air than the factory 5 blade did and does with with less noise and engine strain. highly recommend this unit as a replacement for OEM fans.
This fan for my Dodge truck was very hard to find. I came across etrailer.com and the picture and decription of it was what I needed. I got it very quickly and it was a perfect fit for my old fan clutch. It showed the right way the fan was suppose to turn. Installed it and now my truck is back on the road. This is a very good product, the quality of the metal, the accuracy of the riveting, and the OEM-like finish are impressive. The fan fit to the clutch with almost zero tolerance, and (as near as I sound measure on my workbench) perfect balance.

I originally ordered this from two other big name brand stores who stated it would be a month before they could send it out. Both companies emailed me that they cancelled my order because they could not deliver what they listed they had and would ship the middle of this month.
