Sofa to Bed and Back Again

Jackknife sofa with cupholders

When you pull into the campground, you're tired from the drive. You kick off your shoes, pour yourself something to drink, and flop down on the sofa with a sigh. The center console flips down to give you cupholders so you can keep your drinks close and off the floor. It gives you a space to unwind, entertain guests, and stay up too late talking. When it's time to call it a night, you flip the cupholder up, lift the seat, pull it forward, and press the sofa flat. The backrest folds down smooth so you can throw a sheet and blanket on top for whoever's staying over. In the morning, you fold it back into a sofa while coffee's brewing, store your bedding underneath, and by the time everyone's awake, it's back to being a hangout spot.

Carry-In and Setup

This sofa ships in manageable sections that fit through narrow RV doors, so you can bring it inside without scuffs or struggle. Once in place, complete the minimal assembly, add the matching kickboard, and you're ready to sit back. If you need a base for installation, you can add a set of legs (sold separately): 195-000017. They'll lift the sofa to a comfortable height and give you space underneath to store your gear.

Video Transcript for Review of Thomas Payne RV Couches and Chairs - Sleeper Sofas - TP34AR

Hi, everyone. Steve here with etrailer. Today we're looking at our Thomas Payne RV Jackknife Sofa with included Kickboard. This is gonna be a fold down guest bed or an extra bed, and it's a 62 inch wide front. And what the manufactured call named McCoy color. Now I'm gonna tell you right now, folks, from the get go, this is a darkish gray color.

I'm not sure what it looks like on the camera, but I know in person it's already looking a little bit different to me than what I'm seeing on my screen. So just keep that in mind. I know sometimes colors can look a little different in person, versus on screen. And here's a top down. Again, I really just don't think this does justice.

Again, to me it's a dark gray. And of course, you got two cup holders. I just haven't zoomed in on one here. And this armrest, obviously, tilts forward and back, or up and down. And as you can see, we have that decorative kickplate.

That KickPlate literally just hangs on that front crossbar by three metal brackets. No hardware required as far as that goes. Overall, again, 62 inches from the outside frame, outside of frame. As far as the height, including the kickplate to the top of the headrest, I got 34 inches tall. Now keep in mind with these dimensions, as you can see, the padding, everything has a little give to it.

So these are rough measurements. The main thing is this will fit through a 26 inch or larger RV door, making it really simple to get inside. When it's laid flat, like you'll see here in a second, it's 42 inches deep. The sleeping surface is 59 inches wide, 42 inches deep. When it's set up like this, you still have 59 inches wide, and now you have about 20 inches from the front to where the back of your back would be hitting the backrest. And once again, you have that armrest, which has two cup holders built inside of it. Now, this is a very easy white clean upholstery. It's almost like a leather-like, so water and drinks would beat up on this and you could easily wipe them down. These creases are actually stitching, so there's no spot where liquids or foods can get in between there. They could get in between the fold here, obviously, but that's a different story altogether, right So how do you put this down It's really pretty simple. You normally would come to the front. Keep in mind this would either be on legs or on some kind of a surface that you already have in your RV or camper that you're just replacing. We do offer, sold separately, the Universal Leg Kit for the Thomas Payne Jackknife sofas, and you can purchase that here, like I said, separately, if you don't already have a base. Again, most people are replacing these with a newer version, so you should have that. If you don't, we do carry it. So not to worry. And like I said, to do this, to lay it down, again, this would be bolted in place, so bear with me. You simply come to the front normally, and I'm gonna do it from the side, and you just gently lift up, and then it's literally just gonna kind of fold itself down, just like that. So pretty simple. Again, probably not big enough for a adult like myself who's six foot two and on the bigger side, but if you've had some grandkids, kids, cousins, whatnot, or smaller people, this would probably be a great option for them to lay down in a pinch or something of that nature. And again, it really is pretty simple to operate and use. To go back up, it's just the opposite. And again, bear with me, 'cause I don't have it bolted down to anything. There we go. And then you just put it up just like that. Again, folks, this is a great option for you if you need some extra space, replacing it, or just doing something fresh as far as a fresh look. If you have any questions about this or any of the other sofas and loveseat and things that we carrying here at etrailer, reach out to us. We're more happy to assist you any way we can. I'm Steven. Thanks for watching.
