How to Measure Awning Fabric

More Awning, More Shade

Solera XL Provides 20 Percent More Shade

If you're getting a new awning, why not get more of it? This Solera XL awning comes with an extra 1'8" of fabric, giving you more shade to enjoy on your patio. This is a definite plus for Class A motorhomes, fifth-wheel campers, toy haulers, and RVs with a slide-out under the awning. If you've got a large camper, you want a large awning to match.

Auto Rain Dump

One thing that can quickly ruin your camping trip is a broken awning. It's not easy or cheap to replace, and you can't really enjoy your patio without one. A big hazard to a healthy awning is rain: water pools in the fabric, stretching it out and putting strain on the arms with extra weight it isn't designed to hold. Next thing you know, the fabric rips - the arms snap - the whole awning comes crashing down, slamming against your RV and leaving you with a big and costly problem.

For traditional awnings, it's up to you to run out in the rain and lower one of the arms yourself so the water can run off. If you're away from your RV when it starts to rain, you can only hope your awning isn't damaged when you get back. This Solera awning solves this problem: it comes equipped with an automatic rain dump function. As soon as rainwater starts to pool in the fabric, one of the arms will automatically drop, giving your awning a pitched angle. The rainwater will then run off to one side, taking the pressure off the awning and your mind.

Adjust Arms for Best Shade

Solera XL power awning manual pitch adjustment

It's hard to get your awning in just the right place to keep you in the shade all day, especially if you have one that's pretty high off the ground. Sometimes you need just a little slant to your awning to keep the sun out of your eyes. The manual pitch adjustment built into these arms gives you that option. Simply pull on one of the arms at the friction joint to drop that corner. It comes down easily and holds itself there for as long as you need it. When it's time to retract your awning, there's no need to readjust it; the awning will slide back in no matter what pitch the arms are set at.

Durable Vinyl Fabric

Black Fade Awning Fabric

The durable fabric of this awning is made to hold up to the rigors of the outdoors. It's made of premium 13.5-oz vinyl, which is an upgrade over the 10-oz fabric used in many awnings. In addition, this fabric features heat-welded seams to prevent leaks. The fabric is cold-crack protected to -25 F, so it won't crack or degrade during cold weather.

This awning also comes with a built-in weatherguard to prolong the life of the fabric. This extra-thick layer of fabric lines the section of the canopy closest to your RV. When the awning is retracted, the weatherguard is the only section exposed to the elements, providing the rest of the fabric with a layer of protection when the awning is not in use.

Installation

Solera XL Awning Installed

An awning rail is required to anchor the fabric of the awning to the RV, and your first step will need to be installing one (LC715216 - sold separately) if you don't already have one on your RV. You will need a minimum of 4-1/2" between the awning rail and the top of the entry door. You'll also need 78" of open space on the RV wall - from the awning rail straight down - so that the wall-mounted brackets for the awning arms can be installed.

The roller tube comes with the awning fabric already mounted and attaches to the awning arms. The other side of the fabric slides into the awning rail on the RV. Then use the included self-tapping screws to secure the arms to the wall-mounted brackets. The awning drive motor wires to the included switch, which can either be connected to your battery or wired directly into your RV.

Video Transcript for RV Patio Upgrade: Lippert Breaks Down Their Heavy-Duty Awnings

Hello, neighbors. It's Brad here, and today I'm in Elkhart, Indiana, which is the RV capital of the world. And if you have a camper, the name Lippert probably is somewhere on your camper. And today we're at the corporate headquarters, and we're gonna be talking to some of their product experts to take a closer look at their products. So let's hop inside and get to chatting. I'm here with Dymon, and today we're gonna be talking about the Solera awnings.

And you know, if you've been to the campsite and maybe your camper wasn't originally prepped with one, you see people under the shade and enjoying the outdoors without sun cooking down on 'em. You're not stuck. You can add those on with no problem. A lot of times even prepped, correct Correct, correct. What I'd like to talk about today is our 3000 Series awning, and that's the one you're gonna see on 95, 99% majority of the trailers out there.

It's a 12 volt power awning. So when it comes to putting on an awning, I mentioned a lot of 'em are prepped. So what, I guess, you know, you have your extrusion rail, but what else comes into play when getting one of these installed if it wasn't ever previously installed Well, if you don't have one, you would need a backer in the trailer itself for the arm's belt to attach into. Most manufacturers already have those backers in there. I don't know of anybody who doesn't this point, 'cause awnings are so popular.

Sure. So you'll have that in there. You just have to have the awning rail up there. And then possibly, if it was not a power awning in the beginning, they'll have to run a 12 volt line, or pull from a 12 volt line. That'll give you power to run this 12 volt awning.

And then as far as sizes, you guys cover. The whole gamut, yeah. You go to 21 feet before you start having to add in the center support. We do build them past 21 feet, but it's a special order, and you will leave the center support to help support the roll itself up there. We've added those on, I mean, but once those are fully extended, the amount of real estate that you're covering with shade is is pretty impressive. Yeah, it gives you a big living area for sure. Now, as far as making sure that you get the proper one for yours, how do you go about measuring to make sure it's the right application Well, the majority of them, if you're replacing an awning, which you're more likely you're going to be doing, you'll measure from the center of awning arm to center of awning arm. And that'll give you the size that you need. Brad You know, as far as UV, potentially weather, they hold up really well. Yeah, 13 and a half vinyl ounces. So it's very, very heavy, durable vinyl. We heat weld seam, all the edges. We do not sew. So there's no place for possible rain or water to get through. It's a special process that we actually brought over from Europe to be able to incorporate it here in the United States, which we do make these right here in Elkhart itself. So they're right here locally to us. But yeah, UV resistant. Mold, mildew resistant. Very heavy duty, made to last. And we actually got to see those being made here, which was really cool. I've installed tons of them, but you can see the quality that goes into 'em. And along with that, you know, after plenty of years of keeping the same camper, if that fabric wears out, you can still replace the fabric and keep the arms and motor assembly, right Yeah, absolutely. If everything else is still working fine in the vinyls, just for whatever reason, or maybe a limb went through it, fell down and came through it, you can replace just the fabric itself, in a multitude of colors even, if you'd like to. Brad And as far as like extension, does it stop at any point, or does it roll back when you go full out Dymon It will start to roll back, it will start to roll back. So have eight foot. It'll shut off for a minute, and that's made by resistance. But if you keep holding the button, it will start coming back in itself. Well, I talked to Brian at the manufacturing facility and he said that's a feature. And I said, "Okay, how" And if you get stuff on the bottom side or the top side cleaning it, you can make it a lot easier. You know, you can unroll it instead of being under there with the brush, scrubbing. You can kind of roll that back, get to those spots and clean it, and I thought that was pretty ingenious. Yep, yep. It absolutely does. So I mean, an awning, if you don't have one already, or if you're gonna be replacing the fabric on yours, Lippert has you covered. It's definitely something you want to add. I mean, to hang outside is part of camping, but when you're being cooked in the sun or a light drizzle, whatever, it takes away that fun. The awning allows you to do that. Yep, it absolutely does.

Great fit. Quick shipping. Easy installation. Another great purchase from trailer.

This awning is just the cats meow! Was easy enough to install, this replaced a manual awning which I was to short to roll it out. I also put a wind sensor on my new awning I would also highly recommend putting one on.

by:

Easy to follow instructions, great product high quality materials. Freight shipping seemed damage product etrailer resolved problem very quickly.

by:

The online application made it easy for me to find the right product. The ordering process was easy. The right product was sent. The only problem was that the 2 pieces were delivered on different days. However, I think this is the shipping company's fault and not etrailer.

This awning arrived exactly as promised and performs exactly as expected. We purchased this last year as a replacement to one damaged on our travel trailer by 60+ mph winds. The install directions were well-written and easy to follow. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this product.

by:

This awning has been wonderful. We love the automatic feature. We added it to our 2008 Rockwood Roo hybrid trailer. The ease of use and various positions make our trips so comfortable. We would recommend this awning to anyone.

by:

It’s the perfect replacement for our rig. If you have a side out on the door side, this gives you a little extra room under the awning. The brackets that attach to the camper are longer than the old awning’s but that’s no problem. The only thing I have noticed that’s a downside is it is a bit slow going in.

by:

All scratched up. Box s all tour up. I rejected the drop off. I talk to Sarah S And cancel my order. I waited way too long long for this order and it shows up a mess. I’m not waiting again.

Great awning, excellent transition between colors. A bit long for shipping, recommend picking up direct if possible. Overall nice awnings and beautiful once installed. Oversize awnings don’t like wind, be careful using if any wind, can be difficult to wind up if windy, motor is slightly undersized. Overall very happy, beautiful awning and hardware.

by:

Well had problems with the truck freight, arrived in two shipments. The first the end of awning roller tube was damaged, awning was not damaged so I accepted. The arm shipment box was damaged but arms looked fine, but afterwards I found no switch, mounting hardware, or instructions. Etrailer got all I needed for the installation but it took a while to get the missing parts. My advice on accepting delivery is if the box is damaged don’t accept it!! Install went well, my son, grandson, and installed in a couple of hours. I really like it. Will get so pictures and post later

Had a hard time having this item delivered via UPS with damaged item received. etrailer was great and helped by sending a new item. Again had a hard time getting any local RV shop to schedule an installation time so I finally did it myself with the help of my wive and neighbor. If I read the instructions correctly they read to line the vertical arms with the awning rail. I wish I mounted it at least 2" lower as now the roll is above the awning rail so when fully retracting the awning it pulls downward and not horizontally inward.

To date I have camped with it about eight times and I have noticed a small tear in the awning fabric near the awning rail. Just hope it does not begin tearing. Again, being mounted too high seems to put undue stress on the awning fabric when fully retracted. Also, it does not do well with any wind, but is fine when I stake it down.

On the good side, it is so nice to have an electric retractable awning which makes set up and tear down that much easier with camping. The extra length adds to shade and the adjustable pitch is a snap.

Overall I am very happy with the product now that I finally received it and got it installed. I just hope the awning material does not tear or the motor give out

by:

Never been happier with a product, was an easy install with a second person helping. The extra 20 inches of shade is really nice here in the Sonoran Desert.

by:

Awning coverage is amazing produces a lot of shade awning is very adjustable and the motor only draws minimal amperage so it’s very easy to wire. Only downside is the motor turns very slow so it takes a little bit of time to go in and out. Overall, though very happy very satisfied, good product, and easy straightforward installation.

by:

Went on perfect, wired and installed in 3hrs.

by:

Excellent service and delivery- Solera is the best.

by:

It was a great addition to my trailer. It was easy to install and it works great.

by:

Unbelievably great product. We are now the talk of the campground. Neighbors helped us install our new electric awning the foot and a half more for no drip on our concrete pad. We are so pleased. What a great product. Installation took two hours.

by:

So far so good! The awning was slightly damaged in shipping. They offered to pick it up and send another. Angela B. was helpful in sending me replacement parts instead. while I haven't used it yet except while installing, it seems to work well.

by:

The project is a 1988 Holiday Rambler Aluma Lite XL. The original 21 foot manual awning needed a lot of work so I decided to go power. The 13 foot extra long awning is just super. Lots of good shade. Needed a little special attention to the installation because of the structure attachment points. Turned out great, does a super job!

by:

Awesome! Just unbelievable communication to begin with which made everything easier! Also the information available through details and videos also made the choice clear and simple. My arms on awning bent and the awning was old faded so it made the decision for me..time for new. Installation was super simple and easy. All of 30 minutes took longer for my friends to come and put hands on it than it did to install. Once on just incredible the more coverage!!! The pitch adjustment is just a pull so simple and this units arms are much taller to the point I can walk under them (6’4”) which I could never do before. Really happy and etrailer shipped way faster than expected.

by:

I didn’t get the support arms for my awning.was it shipped in two separate boxes?

by:

I like the awning because it was very easy to install and easy to operate. I installed in an hour using several neighbors to help lift it into place. The wiring was straightforward. I did have an issue because I had to mount it next to a window frame but by making a few shims out of aluminum stock at the fastening points everything looks and works great. After several days at the beach it was never adversely affected by the wind, and I could easily move it as the sun moved and it kept me in the shade.

by:

I just finished installing the Solera Power Awning. I was impressed with the durability and engineering of this awning. I did have to make some modifications (shims added to the vertical supports), but that was due to the critical length of the awning, and where it was placed on the motorhome. I also custom painted the vertical supports to match the motorhome.

I did deviate from the suggested installation. After installing the top rails, I mounted the right vertical support first, then slid in the awning roller. I then held up the left side of the roller with a ladder, and installed the left support. As a result, we only needed two people instead of three. I think it would have been more difficult to try to slide the whole unit (left/right supports and roller) into the rails as one unit. The reason being is that this unit (as a whole) has some weight, and would be a bit unwieldy!
I am very satisfied with the final product and how it operates, and we are very much looking forward to hitting the road and trying it out!

by:

Fabric failure at 1 year, Lippert warranty and nightmare to deal with. Will at etrailer helped and did a great job getting warranty covered, etrailer always good customer service. Always have had good luck with Lippert products but their warranty department terribl when I had an issue

This was a most difficult order we have experienced. We ordered this awning on May 14, they charged my credit card on May 22. When the order was placed it said we would received it within 5-7 business days? Wellafter 5 phone calls Karen, Rachel, Matt,Taylor, taylor again, Austin & Kyle! Emailed Brandon 3 times NO REPLY. We finally received half our order June 10, 2026! But we did it our awning insulted because my went & purchased the parts we needed to complete this project! This was very frustrating to us.
