SmartPlug vs. Twist Lock
RV and boat owners have long relied on Twist Lock style connections for powering their rides. For years, it has been the best option for connecting to shore power. It's been reliable, but most know it's not without disadvantages:
SmartPlug's connector addresses each of these concerns and does all of the heavy lifting.
Locking arms grab the inlet, a clamp inside the plug body holds the cord, the inlet cap snaps to the top while in use, and the integrated seals weatherproof the connection. This helps prevent the wiggly, dirty connections that increase electrical resistance, which creates potentially dangerous heat.
Since it uses a square plug face, SmartPlug is able to use flat pins which create far more surface contact, further reducing the risk of high heat and electrical arcing. The square shape and flat pins also make it easy to plug in - no more twisting or guessing if the pins are lined up correctly.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Smart Plug Replacement RV Power Inlet. This is going to replace your inlet so that you can plug in your smart plug RV power cord. So you can hook up to your shore power at your site. This is a 30 amp male inlet, so it will accept your 30 amp female connector coming in. This does have the same inlet mounting flange holes, that are going to match either your original twist style holes, or your previous smart plug inlet here.
So should be very easy to get this installed. They do include instructions for you step by step, so that you can get this installed, as well as a little Allen wrench, so that you can get your wire connections made there on the back and the sides. So everything that you're gonna need to get this installed is going to be here, minus the tools for your wires and that sort of thing. But overall, really simple installation, get that wired in so that you can get your 30 amp power cord plugged in. This is gonna have all the same features as your original smart plug power inlet.
So you're gonna have the advantage of keeping your cords weight secured with the sleeve design, so that it's not putting that tension on the electrical pins. The inlet cap is going to snap onto the connector, so that when it's plugged in it's gonna be nice and secure. It's also going to accommodate those side connectors on your plug. Got an example here. So you can see as we pushed the plug in, it's gonna snap onto those bits at the side there, and then we can just pull back to release it.
It does have the weatherproof seals on it, to ensure that our prongs are not going to get any water, or that sort of thing on them, even in pretty heavy storms. The stainless steel cap is gonna form a nice weatherproof seal on the inlet when it's not being used. And then we can just pop that open, put our plug in, and we're still gonna have that nice seal with the plug being in there. This does have the straight, nickel plated brass pins on the inside there. So we're not going to have to worry about turning, those straight plugs do have a 20 time greater contact in your curb system design.
So it's gonna produce less resistance, less heat. So it's gonna be a lot more stable for you. Our external metals are a Marine grade 316 stainless steel. So it's gonna hold up really well. This is a 30 amp inlet, so make sure that that's gonna work for your system. It's capable of 125 volts. So overall really great option, whether you are needing to replace a previous smart plug power inlet, or if you're trying to switch your system over, and you just like the style of this. Of course if you are wanting to convert your whole system, and you are going to need a smart plug power cable, we have several options available for you here at etrailer.com. So you might want to look into some of our kit options, where you get the plug and the cord together. But if you're just needing a replacement, this is gonna do a great job for you. So that's gonna complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..
