Your 18 cubic foot SportRack Explorer Cargo Box needs to mount to a roof rack, so step one is to select an aftermarket roof rack system for your 2016 Nissan Rogue with bare roof. The link provided will show you all roof rack options for your vehicle.
Among the more cost-effective choices is the Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack consisting of parts # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK396. This aero bar system provides excellent compatibility with most rooftop accessory items such as cargo boxes and bike carriers. Once installed the crossbars will be 27-1/2-inches apart from center to center; you can compare this to the placement of the cargo box's hardware to confirm compatibility.
If you are missing hardware from your cargo box we offer the SportRack Explorer Roof Mounting Hardware Kit # SR05587.
It is a good idea to review your Rogue owner's manual for any guidance as to rooftop weight capacity. The vehicle will have a finite weight limit for its roof, and you need to account for the weight of the cargo box itself, plus what you load into it, to ensure the vehicle's limit is not exceeded.
I also suggest using the low-cost folding step # TE97FR from Telesteps which comes fully-assembled and which gives you a foot of extra reach for easier loading and unloading of your cargo.
