Speaker 1: Today on my 2017 Volkswagen Golf, we're going to be test fitting the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero roof rack system. This is going to consist of part number RRVA137B-2, those are the bars here. These also come in silver as part number RRVA126S-2. We'll also be using part number RRRLKDA, these are the 2500 series legs for the Vortex Aero crossbars. And finally, part number DK390, and this is the fit kit that clamps around your existing door frame. This is a great roof rack system that will help you carry wide variety of accessories on your roof while freeing up space inside your Golf. Such as bike racks, cargo baskets, or smaller cargo boxes.
It has a nice elliptical shape which is aerodynamic and that, coupled with the Vortex Aero strip, up at the top, will help cut down the wind noise and drag while you drive. The end caps do come with locks included so once you install this it's going to be secure to your roof and also you can remove these Vortex Aero strips up at the top and you can utilize T-track accessories with this as well.So now that we have the front one installed, let's go ahead and show you how the rear one installs. We already have it partially assembled on our table here and the installation process is fairly easy. You're going to see everything that comes with the kit here. We have the bar, the legs, the tightening tool, and of course the fit kit.So our first step, we're going to flip our bar upside down and this is going to make it a little easier to show you how to do this.
We'll start with our 2500 series leg and this bracket up at the top is going to slide in to the slot at the bottom. There we go. And in the instructions you're going to find a measurement from this point to this point on our tower here and normally you would also have a strip to cut to length and put in place so you don't have to worry about that, but for demonstration purposes we're going to go ahead and measure it out. We'll use our trusty flat tape here. And then we'll take our included tool and tighten down the bolt in the center here.
Then we can take our end cap, put that in place, take our little key tool here and move it to the locked position.Next we can start installing our fit kit. Now when it comes to these, you want to make sure that you're putting these in the right place. These are numbered so you know which one is which and with the pads here, it has an arrow so you want to pay attention to where that's facing as well. So this just pushes into place at the base here and we unscrew the edge, we insert it just loosely, then this is ready to be set on our actual roof.So next make sure that the car is unlocked and we'll open up our two rear doors here. Then we'll send our bar on top of the roof very carefully because we don't want to scratch it or anything like that, and then again looking at the measurements and the instructions, you're going to get from center to center a measurement to go by.
Want to make sure it's even on both sides. And it's okay if there is a gap between the pad and the edge here.Next we'll go back to our tightening tool and we'll first get it loosely tightened up against the doorframe, then we'll go back and forth giving it about four or five turns each time until it's nice and tight. And look at our tool here, you'll see that it's curved. As you tighten it down it's going to straighten out and that's when you know it's torqued down to its proper specification. And once those are tightened down our final step is to put our end caps in place and lock them down. All right and now we're ready to load up our gear and hit the road. But there's a couple of measurements I want to give you real quick before we're done. And this is going to give you an idea of how far this sticks above your naked roof. Measuring from the center of the roof to the bottom of the bar is going to be about 3-7/8 of an inch, to the top from the center that's going to be about 5-1/4. So that's more than enough space in between the roof rack and the sunroof here where you can have those accessories that wrap around your bars as opposed to use the T-track accessory, and that's not going to damage it. Also, there's plenty of space to still utilize your actual sunroof here. Both these bars have a combined carrying capacity of 165 pounds but you always want to double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure your roof can take those weights. And there you have it for the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero roof rack system on our 2017 Volkswagen Golf.
