Get More Out of Every Drive: Class III Strength for Everyday Hauling

When you want to haul a small camper, boat, or utility trailer, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver #13580 gives you solid Class III towing strength. With a maximum gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs and a maximum tongue weight of 500 lbs, it's ready for light to moderate towing jobs. The 2" x 2" receiver opening works with standard ball mounts, cargo carriers, and bike racks so you can switch between towing and carrying gear without hassle.

Built to Last Through Every Trip: Fully Welded, Corrosion-Resistant Steel

This hitch is built from sturdy, square-tube steel that’s fully welded for lasting strength. The gloss black powder coat finish sits over a protective base coat to keep rust at bay. Whether it’s road salt or heavy rain, this finish keeps the hitch looking clean and protects it against corrosion so it stays dependable year after year.

Installing the hitch is straightforward thanks to its custom-fit, bolt-on design. It mounts directly to the vehicle frame with no welding needed. The complete hardware kit and installation instructions are included so you can tackle the install yourself with basic tools in your driveway or garage. Precision, robotic welding ensures everything lines up right where it should for a secure fit that’s ready to tow when you are.

Hitch claims to be a simple bolt on device that should be installed in 20 minutes. It was not. There were two holes near the rear end of the frame that the hitch could be bolted to, but the two holes in the rear of the hitch had no corresponding holes in the frame. Plus, if you drilled a hole in the frame, you had to try and install a bolt in a box section channel, a difficult task. Thus, the hitch had to be welded in place and the "twenty minutes installation time" took over two hours. Then, there was the bumper. The specs noted that this hitch fit a stepped bumper, which I have. There were no instructions on how to fit the hitch and bumper together--you have to call or write back to the company who will, then, send you instructions. Maybe. Why are they not included with the basic (poor) instructions sent with the hitch if the system is designed to work with the step bumper and non-step bumper? Why do you have to contact the company for additional instructions rather than have them included in the basic package? Would not recommend this hitch for home installation. This needs to be professionally installed and may require removal of the skid plate under the fuel tank and draining and removing of the fuel tank before welding the hitch in place.

Packaging could use a little upgrade as an arm was sticking out upon receipt. Hitch installed fairly easily. I had to tape the far bolts to a breaker bar to position inside the frame, but they dropped right in. Perfect fit!

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 1977 International Scout II
Yes, the Curt Hitch part # 13580 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 1977 International Trucks Scout II that has a factory step bumper. Bumper bracket modification is needed since it's a step bumper. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip,...

  • Hitch and Weight Distribution Recommendation for 1972 International Trucks Scout II with Step Bumper
You raised some great questions. When a trailer hitch like the Curt Class III # 13580 says "Not Rated for Weight Distribution" it means that the hitch cannot be used with any style of weight distribution (WD) system. This could be due to the size of the brackets on the hitch. (In this case, the brackets are very narrow where they mount to the truck frame.) Another reason may be that the manufacturer has tested the hitch with WD and found that either the hitch or the vehicle did not perform...

  • Front Hitch For A 1976 International Scout II
The only hitch I have for you is going to be a rear class III hitch # 13580. The # C31083 front hitch is designed for 2018 - 2020 Ford Expedition and 2015 - 2020 Ford F-150 models. I contacted our manufacturers and they also do not make a front hitch for your 1976 International Scout II. If you wanted to take on the task, you could take the Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitch # C13701 and weld/bolt it on to the front. I don't know how original your Scout is but that is a route you could take. Whatever...
