Note: Always replace your struts in pairs, where applicable. Most liftgates have a strut on each side. Failure to replace both struts can result in a warped or damaged hinge.
Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your liftgate stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your liftgate to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this custom fit liftgate gas strut. Now this has been designed to fit your 2010 to 2017 BMW Five Series Wagon and on custom fit parts such as a strut, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer. Pop in the year, make, and model of your vehicle. And our fit guide will confirm if this will work for you or if we have something comparable that will work for you.
So this gastro is what helps your vehicles liftgate, that back hatch on your vehicle, to open and close smoothly. So if your current one is worn out or not holding the door up anymore, this is going to replace it directly. When you open up the liftgate, the strut extends and supports the weight so it lifts easily and stays in place without you having to hold it. And then when you close it, this compresses in a controlled way so the door comes down slowly instead of slamming shut. What's nice about this one is that it's actually designed for smooth operation in all temperatures inside.
It has a damp dampening system that's going to help prevent that jerky or bouncy motion that you sometimes get with cheaper or worn out struts. And this also has an internal wiper that's gonna keep the rod lubricated, which helps reduce friction and prevents sticking over time. Insulation's gonna be really straightforward as well. You don't need any special tools. This just snaps onto your vehicle's existing mounting points.
It's a ball-socket set up and it's built to last with a rust resistance steel tube and coated rod. So it's gonna hold up really well against the elements. One important thing to know if your vehicle uses two of these struts, which most liftgates seem to, you should replace them both at the same time. If you only replace one, it could put uneven stress of the liftgate and potentially cause damage to the hinge. I think that's gonna wrap up our look today.

Just installed the gas struts in my 1998 4Runner and the tailgate now fully opens and doesn't hit me in the head anymore! The gas struts work great.
Exact same fit as my original DeeZee lift that was discontinued. Fortunately Atlas makes the same item now and is the only best fit to work with my 2011 F350 tailgate.

These are a definite improvement over the sagging liftgate struts they replaced on my 1998 4Runner. Installation was straightforward and the fit is as expected. Shipping was quick!
The gas struts were a perfect fit. And work great. It would be nice if the bolts and clips came with the struts. During removal of old struts, one spring clip broke and two flew off. I spent 3 hours trying to find clips. No clips at auto parts stores or the Toyota dealer. Ended up finding perfect clips at Ace Hardware.
I'm happy with the product, but dealing with the spring clip on one end of the assembly was a pia. So much so that when installing the 2nd one, did it without messing with that spring clip.
