Hello neighbor, this is Curt with Etrailer and today we're gonna be taking a look at the WeatherTech Universal Cargo Protector in our 2022 Ford Edge. We're just gonna take a look at how it fits. It is trimable, so we're gonna see where the best places that we might need to trim it would be. And if you've gone ahead and decided to purchase this cargo mat and you've got some experiences you'd like to share, go ahead and leave those in the comments below. We'd love to share your story with our other neighbors so they can make the best decision for themselves. Now, if you've been looking for a cargo protector or cargo area protector, you just, you know, you put a lot of stuff back here, you really don't want to mess up that factory carpet that's under here.
And this is an area where it can get messed up pretty badly, just depending on what's going here and what isn't. This is a kind of a rubber material here. It's very flexible. It's studded at the bottom so it doesn't shift around on you really at all. And it's got a really nice grip texture to it.
So I wouldn't expect a lot of cargo to go sliding around on it either. There are some issues with the fit being universal and all, one, it does not come all the way up to the backseat. You've got about a gap of maybe four or five inches up there that it's not covering. Now you could cover that with, you know, something else, tarp, something like that if you want to. But in truth, there is a really kind of aggressive slope to the cargo area of the Ford Edge.
So I wouldn't really be worried about something spilling off of this and running into that area. The main portion of where you're probably going to use your cargo area is toward the lift gate. And in that case there's a lot of coverage as far as that grip goes. It does go wall to wall here, and it does have kind of a wing like this on each side that you would want to trim. Now you can trim this pretty easily with a sharp pair of utility scissors or a razor blade or x-acto knife.
And if it was me, because the edge of this actually comes right up to the molding on either side, maybe just a hair of overlap, I would probably just continue cutting right down this seam right here. And that way I get that wall to wall protection all the way to the lift gate. And when it comes to the molding around the lift gate down here, I would probably just trim it from here on over that corner and up the side. That ought to give really a perfectly flat piece that you can use. Now, there's nothing to say that you can't really use it without, you know, cutting it or anything like that. You could. However, I would still try to cut away these pieces here, especially this just to ensure that my lift gate can close all the way without any interference from this. But all in all, this should be a really, really easy mat to get to fit into the cargo area of your 2022 Ford Edge. I'm Curt with Etrailer. Thanks for stopping by.
