Video Transcript for Tow Ready 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Wiring Harness Installation - 2018 Ford F-250

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Ford F-250 we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tow Ready Fifth Wheen and Gooseneck Wiring Harness for aluminum truck beds. Part number 20110-010.Here's what the wiring looks like once you have it installed. This is going to make connecting up our trailer a lot easier, because we're not going to have to go underneath our tailgate and make the connection with the bumper. It's come to a bias with a seen way connector, it's going to have a nice spring loaded door with a gasket to keep any kind of moisture and debris out from the connector.Since the Ford trucks now have aluminum beds, our kit does come with aluminum screws, so you don't have to worry about any kind of corrosion from putting steel screws into the aluminum. Now, the kit does come with steel screws as well, if you have a steel bed, but again, if you have an aluminum bed, you're going to want to use those aluminum screws. Our harness is going to connect into our factory tow package here, at the back of our seven way on the bumper. We're going to have a T-connector system, it is an extremely simple connection and we're going to have 7 feet of wire to run from here to wherever we decide to mount it in the bed.Even with the wiring in the bed, we're still going to have our factory wiring and that's not going to be interrupted and that's not going to affect it at all.

We're still going to be able to use both of them.My overall impressions of this wiring is that I really like the simplicity of it. We're just going to have a T-connector at the back and we'll run a wire out to wherever we want to mount it. Now that we've seen what our wiring looks like, let's show you how to get it installed. The first thing we're going to want to do is we're going to want to come behind our bumper and find our factory seven way connector. It's going to be a little tab here on the side. We're going to go ahead and push in on that tab, then we can disconnect our connector.

Now we're going to grab our harness that has a Y on the end of it, and we're going to put a little bit of dielectric grease in each side. Now if you need some, you can pick some up at our website at Etrailer.com, using part number 11755.We're just going to fill up the inside of the connector, we're going to do that on both ends. This is going to prevent any kind of moisture or corrosion from building up inside. We can take the end that came out of our harness, on the back of our bumper, plug it into the Y, make sure it locks in, then when you grab the other end and plug it to the back of the bumper. Make sure it locks in.Then we're going to take the end of our harness and we're going to route it over our frame so that we can come out on the side over here, so that we can route it up towards our bed.

That way the wires will be out of the way and they won't be hanging down behind the bumper. Now, inside the bed, we're going to need to find a spot to mount our seven way connector. We're going to mount ours towards the back, down low. You can mount it pretty much wherever you want, but this will be a nice, easy access spot. To start out, we're going to take a small drill bit and drill a pilot hole into the side of the bed here. You just want to be extra careful, because you don't want to go too far and hit the exterior part of your bed. With our pilot hole drilled, I'm going to come back with the hole saw and I'm going to cut a hole large enough that my connector can fit through.

The directions say to use a 2-inch hole saw, but I'm going to go just slightly larger with a 2 1/4", that way I know for sure that the connector can come all the way through. I'm going to come back with a file and I'm just going to file down the edges a little bit, that way they're not so sharp. I'm going to come back with a little bit of spray paint. I'm going to spray the inside edge of the bare metal to prevent any kind of rust or corrosion from building up.Now I'm going to reach underneath my truck and I'm going to feed my wires up until I can pass them through the hole that I just drilled. You want to take a little bit more of that dielectric grease, put it in the end of our connector, and take the outside connector and plug it in. Make sure it locks into place, feed our wires back in, and we can get ready to mount our connectors to the bed. We can line up our connector, we can grab one of the included self tapping screws, and a 5/16 nut driver, and put them in place. All we have left to do is test our connection. I'm going to plug in my seven way tester, then grab an extra set of hands, so they can run my lights and I can verify that they're all working properly. If I turn my headlights on, we can see the lights come on, as well as the left turn signal, the right turn signal, and the brakes. Then if I apply the manual override on the trailer break controller, we can see the meter at the top going up and coming back down when I let go.It's always a good idea to check the connection of the back of the bumper, since we did disconnect that as well. I just took a couple of zip ties and I took the excess wire and I zip tied it up underneath the bumper. There's no exact way to do it, you just want to make sure that the wires are tucked up high enough that they're not going to catch on anything. They're also not going to interfere with anything else back here. That will finish up your look at the Tow Ready Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck wiring harness for aluminum truck beds, part number 20110-010 on our 2018 Ford F-250.

The first harness i ordered did not fit correctly. This harness fit and functioned perfectly. This harness is a very easy install just be sure there isn’t anything behind where you will make your 2” hole. I almost put it where the frame for the bed wouldn’t have allowed it. As always, etrailer was exceptional, even with the harness I had to return! Thanks

The trailer plug worked great. It plugged into the truck harness and worked well. The truck I put it on is a 2017 F250 Larriet

by:

Easy install. Hardest part was using the hole saw in my aluminum bed. Snapped right in to the existing connector. I also tested out the connections with a meter to insure all were working.

by:

Trailer hitch has worked exactly as it should. Could not ask for better performance.

All of the hitch items I orders have been delivered quickly. I will have them installed in a couple of weeks and will add to this review once we open all the boxes and make sure everything is OK.

by:

This installation was easy and only took about a half hour to get it done.. It would have take me 15 minutes if I had known that I should notch the hole for the cord to fit through..

  • Is An OEM Prep Kit Necessary For A Base Rail Kit To Be Installed
The OEM prep kit is a puck system, which would be an alternative to a rail kit like the Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit # RP56017-53 you were looking at. Base Rails and Puck Systems have different attachment point types so you'll need to use a hitch with a compatible attachment type. Most likely your Reese hitch connects to base rails with some pins and clips so you'd be good with installing the # RP56017-53 in your F-250 for the hitch to connect to. If the hitch...

  • 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty In-Bed 7-Way Socket Recommendation for Aluminum Truck Bed
I recommend using the Tow Ready 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Wiring Harness # 20110-010 for your 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty because it comes with both steel and aluminum screws. Since you have an aluminum bed you'll use the aluminum screws and they won't have any kind of reaction with your truck bed.

  • Orientation of Pivot Arms to Install B&W BWRVK3300 Companion 5th Wheel Hitch-2020 Ford F250
Having the scooped corners on your fifth wheel is a neat feature that will eliminate the need for a slider and save you some dollars on the hitch purchase. The 20K capacity # BWRVK3300 B&W Companion you'd looked at would work well for you. As listed in the installation instructions, the hitch head can be installed so that it sits either 3 inches forward or 1 inch forward of the rear truck axle centerline. You'll want to install the arms in the rearward orientation as shown in the diagram...

  • Recommended B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch-2020 Ford F250 w/ Tow Prep Package
The exact hitch needed can depend on the weight of your fifth wheel and the length of your truck bed. For a short bed truck, in most cases you'll need a sliding hitch like # BWRVK3370 unless the front corners of your fifth wheel are dished in to allow sharp turns without the fifth wheel corners hitting the corner of the truck cab. A long bed truck would use a stationary hitch like # BWRVK3300. The stationary hitch is also available in a 25K capacity model as # BWRVK3305. For a trailer...
