Hi, everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we are looking at the Atak pop-up lantern here at etrailer. This has a 360 degree area of illumination which means it's a great addition to your hiking, outdoor, camping setups. And the best thing about this though is how it pops up. So, you can close it and pop it right up for a quick light.
We have two fold-away arms on the side of our lantern, so these can be quickly put up in order to hang them from maybe your tent pole or your vehicle. This is made of heavy-duty ABS plastic which allows it to be relatively light but also IPX-4 water resistant. What that means is even if you have it out in the rain and you have water splashing up against it, it's gonna be perfectly fine. Just don't submerge it, or drop it into the lake or the river. On the bottom, you also have two other forms of portability.
So, you have a hook here at the bottom which you can hook onto again, your tent or your bag, or have it inside your vehicle. But you also have three magnets on the bottom which help you stick it to surfaces. Depending on your vehicle, you can use the magnet, so just stick this onto your frame and open the light. That way, you have a light hanging off of your vehicle. You can also stick this to any flat metal surface and just turn on the light.
You see how the magnet mounts it to that surface. Now, some people like to put these on their bags or their gear while they're hiking just to add that light in the darkness. Now, this might not be the best use of it because I've noticed with any small movement that the light opens. So, if you want it on all the time, that works. But if you wanna keep it in the closed position, it might not work as well on something moving.
Now, we're gonna see how it looks like in complete darkness, so we'll turn off the lights and open this up. As you can see, we have that 360 degree of illumination. And this really brightens up the area or the field that it is in. I definitely see this being used in a campsite, or somewhere where you need a large amount of light. Do you notice though, how harsh it can be, so keep that in mind when you're trying to work with it. Now, the thing about this pop-up lantern is that you have the full 300 lumens of light shining at you when you do pop it up. There is no setting to have it dimmer or softer. That is the amount of light you will get. It's either really bright or no light at all. This comes with three AA batteries. And the way to access those batteries is just to twist the bottom off and then you loosen that cap. You can see how we have these batteries here. I do recommend picking up your own set of batteries though, that way, you have the full charge in there and you won't be worried about it when you're on the hike or on the trail. This uses COB LED strips, and what that means is it's a bit more energy efficient since you have multiple, kind of LED lights in there, that is compared to the SMD bulb which is a single bulb. You can see how this has a bit more illumination in comparison. My final thoughts about this lantern is I do like the idea of a pop-up lantern. I think that is its biggest feature. It's a really bright lantern too. Since you do have those LED strips in there, it does provide a large area of illumination. So, I see this being used at a campsite, or at a party at night. Somewhere where you need all that light. Now, as for it's on its own, I think you would still need a larger flashlight when you go on hikes or on trips, but this is a great add-on to the gear you already have. And that was a look here at our Atak pop-up lantern here at etrailer..
