Installation for Trucks With Pop-Out Rail Caps

pop off rail cap

If you have pop-out rail caps you can install the anchors in seconds. All you have to do is pop the caps off using a flat head screwdriver, insert the anchors into the stake pockets, and tighten them down with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Installation for Trucks Without Pop-Out Rail Caps

Router Bit

If you have truck bed rails with hidden stake pockets that don't have pop-out rail caps, a router and a drill with a 1/2" bit (not included) are required to install the anchors.

Router Bit

The router bit (sold separately) lets you perfectly trim the caps without damaging your truck bed. To install the anchors, drill a 1/2" hole in the center of each rail cap and use the router to make the cuts. The router bit has 4 roller bearings that guide the router around the inner steel pocket to prevent overcutting the surface of your bedrails. Cut around each perimeter several times so that all the plastic residue resulting from the cuts gets trimmed away. Once the caps have been trimmed you can install the anchors.

Router Bit

If you have rear stake pockets with an inner plastic shaft, use a router with the rotary pocket saw bit (sold separately) to remove it.

Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: BullRing Stake Pocket D-Rings-BU33FR

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Bull Ring Retractable Truck Bed Stake Pocket Tie Down Anchor set. This set is going to include four of these heavy duty anchors that will install into the stake pockets on top of your truck's bed roll, to provide tie down points to secure your load. They are going to be much easier to reach than the factory anchor points inside your bed, being up there on your bed rails will be much easier for you to connect your S-hooks and J-hooks there, rather than having to reach inside your bed to connect to secure your load down. These are designed to work specifically for your 1995 and newer Dodge Ram, your 2014 through 2019 Toyota Tundra, and your 2022 and newer and Hyundai Santa Cruz. So these are going to fit right into the stake pockets on those models.

You are going to get four of these, as I said, so that will be enough for your front and rear pockets. We do also have kits available with a quantity of six. So if you have a Ram with an eight foot bed, and you want front, middle and rear stake pocket anchors, you can pick up that six pack instead. Or we do also have a pack of two if you're just wanting a couple anchors at either the front or the rear, you have that option available as well. Now these are a durable stainless steel ring, so they are going to give you a nice solid connection for your S-hooks and J-hooks, and they are gonna provide a 1000 pound weight capacity.

As you can see, we also have the polished stainless steel plate here for a nice classic look. Being stainless steel construction, it's gonna help resist rust and corrosion as well. Now these are going to fit flush. So you're gonna sit level with your rail caps, and so they are gonna be compatible with most tonneau covers. And then here on the bottom, we are going to have glass-reinforced nylon lower bodies to help dampen sound.

So when you're ready to use them, you can pull 'em out they'll stay in place like so, and then when you're done with them, just push 'em in and they'll give you that nice retracted, recessed look. So very easy to pull 'em out so that they're up, easy to hook onto, and then push 'em down to get rid of 'em when you're not using them. So very nice retractable design here. They are going to use gravity to pop down when you're not using them. And then they have that little catch on the bottom that holds 'em up in place.

So to get these installed, it's gonna be pretty simple. Some models will require you to trim your rail cap for proper installation. If you have the 2009 and newer Ram, it would be good to use both of those, the saw bit and the router bit that you see on the screen there to open up your stake pocket to get these installed. If you have a Tundra Crew Max with the non-removable pocket caps, or the Santa Cruz, you you just need the router bit, you wouldn't need that saw bit. But those are gonna make it much easier for you to get these installed, to get those stake pockets opened up. Once they're open it's very simple to get these installed. You'll just remove the two screws here, so that's gonna give you a little bit of wiggle room so that you can adjust these, get them angled down into the pocket, and then just pull up on that ring, that's going to pull this center portion up, and it's going to catch on the sheet metal of your truck. So it's gonna have a nice solid connection point there. And then you'll just reinstall those screws, and it will operate properly for you with that nice connection to your truck. So overall, I think these are gonna be a great option for you if you are looking for a more convenient anchor point than the ones that are inside your truck bed. These do come with a lifetime warranty, so if you we're to have any issues with them, you're more than welcome to reach out to us here at etrailer.com. But overall, I think these are gonna be a really great option for you. That completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

I use these all the time. Super easy to install. The only reccomendation is that they would pop up and stay up if wanted. as they are now you need to pull the loop up and hook our rope or strap or they will retract by Gravity.

GREAT PRODUCT! ETRAILER PROVIDES GREAT SERVICE AND THE SHIPPING IS LIGHTNING FAST!

by:

Fit good, easy install, and feel rugged. Installed on 2022 F150 (aluminum body) but no galvanic barrier was supplied to prevent contact between lower steel bracket and aluminum bed rail. Simple fix with strips of electrical tape.

by:

Fit perfectly on my 2022 F250

by:

I don’t use the tie downs often, but when needed they come in VERY handy. I like the trim appearance. Much nicer than big rings sticking up from the sides of the bed.

by:

These Bullring tie downs work very well with securing a load in my truck bed. Made of good quality materials and easy to install. This is my second set I've installed on my F-150's. I would recommend these for any truck.

by:

The product seems great. The problem is that the instructions tells you to go to a link for help installing, and that site isn't active anymore. Also, e-trailer nor the manufacturer tell you to order a router kit to cut out the overhang from where your bedstakes are located. But I'm guessing these will be nice once I get them installed.

by:

Although these d-rings are easy to install, and fit in the stake pockets, I believe they are meant for truck beds with bed rails, because when I tightened them down, they were still slightly loose, and my truck bed has no rails. It would help if this was noted on the product page.

by:

Great fit. Doesn’t require all that much trimming but can take a little force to get them in.

by:

It is perfect! Super easy to install

by:

Should work fine.

by:

Solid product!

by:

Quick easy install

by:

Fit and finish was great. Worked like it was supposed to.

by:

Fit is Awesome, Very Easy to install. Love the fact that they pop down when NOT needed to maintain a flush bed rail,
I highly recommend to all that read this - BUY BUY BUY !!!

by:

I had these retractable d-rings on my precious truck and they are ideal for securing tall loads or loads on rope of my hard bed cover. Had to have more to install on my new pickup truck.

by:

Metal plate could be thicker or stronger. Bends if screws are tightened too much (HAND TIGHTENED WITH PHILIPS SCREWDRIVER).

by:

They installed easily and look good. They have worked very well for me in securing what I would consider to be light to medium loads. I personally have not utilized the pocket D-Rings in a heavy load application and probably never will

by:

You’ll need a router to do this efficiently on a Ram truck. You can do it with a box cutter knife but it would be a lot of work. They are awesome and I already used them!

by:

Very good bull rings. I use them everyday without any problems.

by:

I installed these on my 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz. At first I could not get them to drop down into the stake pocket. Removing the screws entirely solved that problem. Then I began to tighten the screws, I had grabbed a common Phillips head screwdriver but quickly realized that it was not engaging well with the screw head and was beginning to damage the head when it kept popping out. I recall watching some Youtube videos and that was happening to the installer using a driver drill and popping a lot, but he did not appear to notice and/or care. I very soon stopped and got a Phillips head # 3 (the first was the more common #2), that made a world of difference. Apparently on older Santa Cruz the area over the stake pocket had to be cut out either with a knife or a dremel. For my model/year it was much easier as they just popped out with a quick pry from a small flat head screwdriver. The one complaint I have is the stainless steel flange on the bull ring does not quite completely cover the hole made by removing the stake pocket cover. It is very close but I wish it had at least an 1/8' overlap and it does not, that lack of fit causes a slight bend in the flange.

by:

Exactly what I was looking for! These fit with my Alsport aluminum bed cover just fine. Didn’t even need to take it off to install. Combined with some soft straps I’ll be able to strap loads on top of the tonneau without having to take it off. 2024 F150 Super Crew with 6’7” bed.

by:

Went in easy.Flush mount.

by:

Work exactly as expected

by:

Seems heavy duty until you tighten it down, the flush mount tie downs I got start to bend when tightened. I didn’t hulk it, just reasonably tightened and noticed the stainless top portion was bending. Seems like it will be fine for my purposes as I’ll only be tying down a tent and an EZ up on top of my tonneau cover, but for close to $90 I’d expect something rock solid.
