Best Palomino Puma Travel Trailer RV Awnings

A friend and I installed this topper today on a Winnebago 2101DS travel trailer. It took a little over one hour and we didn't run into any real problems. One thing the instructions said to do was to mount the hex aluminum bar in the end bracket using a self tapping 1/4-20 screw. Seemed almost impossible to do so I used a 1/4-20 tap. Worked fine. Once the slide topper is squared away and goes in and out properly the paper instructions want you to install a black self tapping screw in the fabric slot within 1" of the end of the fabric. I didn't like the idea of running the screw through the fabric. I had some black tubing from another project which I used for the block to keep the slide fabric from moving. The topper seems to be high quality and certainly will provide additional protection from the elements. This is definitely a two man job and my friend was great help. When we were sliding the fabric into the slide topper rail we found the best way was for me to be on the roof supporting the topper while my friend guided the fabric into the rail slot.

An "add-on" that is absolutely necessary -- this "slide topper" shields the top of the slide from grit, grime, trash, dust & potential mold so that it isn't pulled back into the RV each time the slide is retracted. Frankly, the written instructions leave much to be desired, but thanks to the etrailer videos a reasonably able DIY'ER can install (...can't over emphasize that watching and memorizing the videos is a must, however!). An excellent product that seems to wear well while providing "necessary" protection.

So far, this awning is going on the trailer fine. Everything shipped and I am installing it this week. Working through the wiring and got everything working including the switches that are in the trailer already. The SmartArm controller is awesome. I am glad I opted for the wind sensor also, we almost lost an awning a couple of years ago when a storm blew in as we were coming back to the campground. I was holding on to the awning and the wind picked me up like I was in a parachute. We thankfully got it rolled in before any damage was done, but many campers lost their awnings that day. I'll update once I get everything installed and working.

Love the way water pours off when it rains without having to do anything but make sure you are not in the dump zone. A little disappointed that extension and retraction are not a little quicker. Have tried all settings but so far the auto wind retraction has not worked. Maybe I'm not letting the awning flop enough but I think when the awning is popping and the camper is rocking it's time to roll it in. All that said it sure beats my old manual awning.

I ordered the Solara awning that you expressly said fit my model number however the mounting arms are to long and run into a running light and leveling jack button so I either have to modify my trailer or buy a different awning.

Great awning, excellent transition between colors. A bit long for shipping, recommend picking up direct if possible. Overall nice awnings and beautiful once installed. Oversize awnings don’t like wind, be careful using if any wind, can be difficult to wind up if windy, motor is slightly undersized. Overall very happy, beautiful awning and hardware.

Awning great install went well , cover for motor was broke needs replaced , The 2 assembly’s where just rapped in plastic when unpacked found motor cover broken .

Well had problems with the truck freight, arrived in two shipments. The first the end of awning roller tube was damaged,awning was not damaged so I accepted. The arm shipment box was damaged but arms looked fine, but afterwards I found no switch, mounting hardware, or instructions. Etrailer got all I needed for the installation but it took a while to get the missing parts. My advice on accepting delivery is if the box is damaged don’t accept it!! Install went well, my son, grandson, and installed in a couple of hours. I really like it. Will get so pictures and post later

I have been dealing with Madison from ETrailer. She was great and helping me out with my situation. She even gave me her direct number and I will deal with her from now on.

The replacement awning fit almost exactly. We needed to drill a few holes in the camper to accommodate the new(?) bolt pattern. Unfortunately our camper was not wired for the smart arm type awning (even though it was a 2021 model), so I’m waiting to rewire the RV control panel to provide a constant hot wire to the awning so the smart arm feature will be functional.

Jan. 3-2020 What a great company and staff. Thanks to hard the hard work you performed in my behalf. I had purchased a Solera 18 volt-20 ft awning package and had it shipped to Camping World in Minnesota. Somewhere along the way the 20 ft awning escaped from the delivery truck. I won't mention who the freight shipper is, but the awning is still on the loose. After many calls to the freight shipper and etrailer the staff decided to send me another awning to help me get on the road for an upcoming trip with my RV. Otherwise it would have ruined my trip. Thanks to everyone and I will continue to be a loyal purchaser of the many fine products the company sells. Hats off and a big salute!!! Thanks Dino P.S. After searching the internet and checking reviews I chose etrailer for my slide out awning. I have shopped at Camping World who had the same awning but a lower price. After contacting etrailer with their price match I got the awning plus a few dollars less shipped to my door! Communications were excellent! The installation was straight forward with ample instructions. The mounting brackets for the slide out has two positions, an upper and lower to provide clearance between the roll and top of the slide out. I used the upper. Hardware was great quality. There is ample adjustments in the brackets side to side if needed. My trailer a 2020 Aspen Trail 2750BH has the “C” rail as part of the gutter so I didn’t need to install the one provided with the awning! My wife and I installed the awning with two ladders and did not have any problems. Make sure and use the silicone spray as it really makes the awning easy to slide thru the C channel. We are happy with our purchase and will definitely use etrailer for our needs! Thank you for a quality product!

This slide topper was very easy to install and I learned a lot during the install. I have a longer one on order and it should go on a lot faster than this one did.

I like this cover that keeps trash and thermal sun load off my slide out roof. The wind and rain puddle are downers but the benefits outweigh these. I am considering a middle roller.

After a year the product I purchased and installed has been wonderful. As you can see from the picture(s) it is still in great shape and protects our camper slide. Topper was easy to install for a DYI and the assistance of video on installation prep and advice from etrailer was the ticket to successfully completing the job with no trouble. Topper material is quality material and hardware was very good. Love the results and no issues with anything falling on the top of my slide increasing the risk of damage to slide and or seals.

Carol, I wanted to send you photos of how I received my two packages from the freight company. Y'all have been great to deal with but the delivery method needs improving. As long as my awnings are not missing any parts and are not damaged, I will be happy. But I just got back home and found the boxes like this. I thought you would want to know.

This awning was packaged well and it arrived undamaged, however, when I took it out of the package the top rail was bent and the groove where the awning slides in was damaged. I was able to open the groove by bending and it was still serviceable. The hardware package had been opened previously, but nothing was missing. On the bead end of the vinyl where it is glued together was not glued properly. It was on the leading end of the awning so it would take a beating while driving. I repaired it with super glue and hopefully it will hold properly. Those are my complaints and why I gave it only 3 stars. On the other hand, the instructions were thorough and easy to follow. The hardware installation was straight forward and was completed without issue. I have purchased from etrailer for years and have been very satisfied with the service and quality of their products. This one didn’t measure up due to the factors above.

The addition of this awning has been awesome. The install was easy and the operation has been great. We put it on an Old Church bus we turned into the Hogwarts Express. Take it camping, NASCAR Races and watching Meteor showers.

Everyone I talked to was easy to understand and extremely pleasant, which is unusual these days, sadly. Even though the item was damaged in shipping, and no fault of etrailer, they made everything right in a very timely manner, I couldn’t have asked for better customer service. See my other review. The channel that holds the topper to the RV needs to be higher than what their instructions say. Other than that it's a good product.

The reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is the problems I had with the shipping. All if the shipping tubes we damaged to some extent and one if them was shipped 3 times because of damage done to the awning in transit. Other than that, the awnings look and work great. My 64 year old bride and 65 year old I installed them without too much trouble and 0 injuries. 3 on one side 1 long one on the other side.

The installation went well. I used the existing gutter rail to mount the topper. If I did it again, and I may still add it, I'd put the included awning rail above the existing rail to increase the slope of the topper. This would give better run off. It's a great topper.

Product was destroyed in transit. Please refund my money. I will not be interested in further negotiations with e trailer. It seems to be a systematic issue with your choice of transportation vendor. Best wishes.

This is a great solution for RV owners wanting to upgrade to the convince of a motorized awning without the complexity of routing a source of power to the awning. My only wish would be for some bracket alternatives to accommodate mounting scenarios that need to clear trim pieces found on larger class A type motor homes. I had some questions of E-trailer on this issue which were a bit technical, and they referred me to Lippert. Lippert customer service has been unresponsive, going on 2 weeks now. I had a shipping damage issue involving the fabric on the roller tube. If you purchase the full awning, the roller tube with fabric is shipped separately from the motor arms. The arms were shipped UPS while the awning tube and fabric came via LTL motor freight, due to weight and size. At install, the fabric on was discovered to have puncture holes it. Some advice, inspect your shipment upon receipt for hidden damage. etrailer customer service came through, promptly shipping a new replacement awning fabric to me which I received in three days. They get 5 star rating for their end to end customer service. You can make a quality product, which overall I find this product to be, but unless you also deliver quality service you fail. This experience reinforces my decision to purchase from etrailer, rather than direct from Lippert. I’m still waiting to hear from Lippert customer service. on my installation questions.

Great product. You need to really spend some time with a stud finder to try to find the best spot to anchor this into. I found very little on my camper, and ended up doing a combination of screws when I found a metal stud, and long pop rivets in some holes to get a better grab on the camper. It has been great so far.

Fast shipping and it arrived at my house exactly when I expected it. This is my fourth slie-Out Awning from etrailer. Everything went great.

The online application made it easy for me to find the right product. The ordering process was easy. The right product was sent. The only problem was that the 2 pieces were delivered on different days. However, I think this is the shipping company's fault and not etrailer.

The project is a 1988 Holiday Rambler Aluma Lite XL. The original 21 foot manual awning needed a lot of work so I decided to go power. The 13 foot extra long awning is just super. Lots of good shade. Needed a little special attention to the installation because of the structure attachment points. Turned out great, does a super job!

I have the motion sensor to turn on my awing lights. It worked fine until it rained. Then it can on at random times and and would sometimes stay on all night. Customer support had suggestions on water proofing the arm that didn't help. They then sent me a new module which didn't help, then a new wiring harness. I then fixed the problem myself by putting dielectric grease in the connection that was getting wet. I feel it is a very poor design to not protect sensitive connections from moisture.
