The Gate King adjustable truck bed extender is incredibly simple to operate. Simply lower your tailgate, engage the pins on each bar, and lift to your desired angle. As you lift, you'll hear an audible click when your tailgate locks in at each increment.
Once you lift your tailgate completely to close it, the pins will return to the open position. This will let you use your tailgate normally. However, if the tailgate is locked at the tightest angle and unable to close due to a tonneau cover or camper shell, the included tool lets you to release the pins and open the tailgate. This tool also is helpful for other situations where you can't easily release the pins by hand.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna take a look at these Gate King Adjustable Truck Bed Extenders. These durable stainless steel tailgate adjusters are going to replace your factory cables, allowing you to adjust your tailgate to eight different angles from open to closed. So you can carry longer load such as your ladder in your truck bed or create a wheel track for your dirt bike or four wheeler. Now, this is a custom fit part that is designed to fit the 2020 and newer Jeep Gladiator.

These are more convenient and less cumbersome than your typical tailgate extenders. And they are going to be great for trucks with tunnel covers and camper shells. They are going to allow your tailgate to support your load while they are locked in position, turning your tailgate into a wheel track for dirt bikes and ATVs. Now, this is going to be a simple operation.
You're just going to lower your tailgate, and really in the position that I have this in now, it is like your tailgate is lowered. So when your tailgate is closed, obviously these are going to be together but then you would just simply lower your tailgate and you would just engage this pin on here. And that's going to allow you to activate that ratcheting mechanism, as you can hear and then you're gonna be able to lift your tailgate to that desired angle. And then it's not going to lower itself, it's going to be locked into that position. And then when your tailgate is closed, that pin is going to return to the open position for normal tailgate use.
And then your tailgate will open up smoothly. So again, your tailgate is open, and just engage that pin. And then that ratcheting mechanism will be engaged. And then when you close it, then that is going to disengage that ratcheting mechanism. So it's really easy to use.
Now, if you run into a situation where you have your tailgate closed and you've got your tunnel cover locked and closed over the bed of your truck, and you can't quite fit your hand in there to release this pin, you can use this tool and that tool will allow you to engage that pin so you can release that locking mechanism. So this is going to be really a convenient way to allow you to use your tailgate in such a way to where it's going to be able to use, as we said, a wheel track or allow you just to keep it locked into a lift position. These are going to install quickly and easily with the included mounting hardware that you see here. There's not gonna be any drilling required because they are replacing the factory tailgate cables and they're going to be using the existing bolt holes. These are made in the USA of a durable stainless steel construction with an e-coat finish that's going to resist corrosion. You are gonna get two support bars with the hardware and also instructions to walk you through the installation procedure. An important note to make is that Gate King adjustable tailgate sub board cars do not replace the need for ratchet straps or tiedowns. For these support bars, we'll not work with most aftermarket slow release bars and they may not work if your truck's tailgate is bent, dented, or misaligned. You do also wanna make sure that you are following your manufacturer's weight limit on your tailgate as well as well. And you wanna make sure that you don't exceed that limit. This is a very good product, however it’s way too expensive for the pair I can’t recommend it because of the cost. In my opinion it’s at least double the cost of what it should be.
Poor fit and finish. Product does not fit properly. Tried to return initially but too expensive for postage to return.
Easy install on my 2018 Chevy Crewcab. Had to use 1 extra washer per screw to make it just right.

I do not recommend this product for a Toyota Tundra 2014 to 2021. I have a 2016 Tundra and did not work. Bad customer service when trying to return the part. They didn’t answer my calls or emails. They had me send pictures multiple times of how the part fitted my tailgate. Took 2 weeks to get a response for a RA number.
This product works great. I'm able to adjust my tailgate to help me haul lumber or anything large in my short bed truck. Because it's easy to use, simple to install and heavy-duty, I would recommend this product to anyone needing more versatility out of their truck bed.

Received my order two days early! I immediately installed the Gate King and tested. Only took 10 minutes. Seems nice with a lit of adjustment. I will be hauling our golf cart while towing our travel trailer and this us tge perfect product to secure the tailgate.
This is made to a very high standard. It performed like it was standard equipment on our truck. As soon as we installed it, we went to the hardware store and purchased lumber for a project. Worked excellent. It held the lumber up against the tanno cover. Didn't even need to tie the load down. Excellent product. Next I'll load my motorcycle in my truck and see how good it holds up. Can't wait

It's expensive for hinges, but they work great. Have utilized them a lot. It really helps when you have a tonneau cover but still want something to hang out like pvc pipe but do not want to open the cover.
Works well. I needed these because having a contractor cap with side boxes, there was no room to carry sheets of plywood between the toolboxes and top of tailgate.
After one year the locking mechanisms don't automatically lock. I have to manually push the bar to lock it . I've tried a couple of different lubricant. None worked. The spring doesn't seam strong enough. Also the tab that pushes the locking arm into the open position when closing the tailgate came off .
Will hold the tailgate up so I can pull my camper with my four wheeler in the back.
For the price I expected less slop in the action as it opens, slaps against the tailgate. However, once extended or locked it is good. Remember to also use the spacer from your original cables (2019 Silverado) you will need them on the top bolts. The retaining clips (spring steel) were not tight enough so every third or forth closing/opening the ratchet would engage on one of the support bars. Simply squeezed them both with pliers to create a firmer fit. See one of the photos submitted showing the clip.
I have been using the King Gate hinges for a year and they work great and remain in good condition. We pull a camper and load a side by side in the bed. The extenders allow for the tailgate to close enough so it does not interfere with driving or backing up the trailer. The hold the weight of the machine for loading and unloading. I am glad I bought these they have been a game changer.
