Rob: Rob here at etrailer.com and today we're gonna be taking a look at the PTC custom fit engine air filter on our 2018 Subaru Forrester. Our engine air filter is gonna be one of those maintenance items that a lot of people don't think about. But it is gonna be vital part making sure we get the best fuel economy and performance out of our engine. And what our filter is gonna do is, it's gonna filter all the air coming in before it actually gets inside the engine. That way we don't have any large debris or any small particles either that'll get inside and potentially cause a lot of damage down the road. So we'll go ahead and check our filter, and if it needs to be replaced we can put the new one in.We'll start by opening up the hood.
We're gonna come all the way to the passenger side. Right in the front we're gonna have this box with two clips on it. Let me just flip those open. We're gonna tilt the box towards the back of the car and then we can grab our filter here. It's a little bit of a tight fit.
We'll pull it out. You wanna double check it both sides 'cause one side may seem pretty clean when you flip it over, but you can see we have some large debris and it's actually turning that cotton material gray. So we're gonna go and grab our new filter and put it in. Now we're just gonna slide this in the same direction. So you want the pleats to be facing towards the front.And once you get the filter in the box, you kinda wanna lift up 'cause on the bottom we're gonna have some tabs that are gonna have to line up.
Then close the tabs and we're ready to hit the road. The manufacturers are gonna recommend that you check or change your air filter every 12 to 15000 miles but you could double check your Forrester's Owner's Manual to see the exact timeframe so we can get the best fuel economy and performance out of our Forrester.
