Factory Connector Location to Install Trailer Wiring on 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/Tow Package
Question:
I have looked behind the driver side panel in the cargo area of my 1997 JGC and I do not see an unused trailer Light Plug. I do however see a light outage module with several connectors connecting it to the wiring harnesses. The factory build sheet says vehicle is supposed to be factory prepped for towing and has trans cooler and HD radiator. Do I need to remove the entire trim panel to find the connector for trailer lights or is one of the existing connectors to the light outage module used? Also since this trailer light module is powered, do I need to bun a power wire to the font of the vehicle to pick up battery power?

It is possible that the connectors for wiring harness # C55260 will be in a different location on your 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee than what is stated in the instructions. You may have to pull additional panels out of the way or check the opposite side of the vehicle. Other customers have made similar comments in the review section of this product.
One customer said "the included instructions from the manufacture are wrong. for my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee the proper vehicle harnesses are located on the driver's side behind the spare, not the passenger side. You will see an access panel there. Open it and both connections are there."
This trailer wiring harness does not require making a connection to the vehicle battery for power.
