Which Shocker Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter Fits In Place of Lippert 1716

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 12/18/2025

Question:

Im looking at purchasing a fifth wheel with a factory Lippert 1716. It appears the the 1716 has a 2.5inch adjustment in height from the extended position and the retracted position. Does the Shocker have that same adjustment? If not what does it replicate? I need as much offset as I can get, I see there is a Shocker part SHK23YR that has 9, which would work but it has a square tube, do they make a round tube to fit into this fifth wheel to goose neck adapter? Are there other options?

Hey Doug, the correct Shocker Hitch for replacing a Lippert 1716 would be the part # SHK89YR that you referenced. This has a vertical height adjustment range of 8 inches due to its 3 adjustment holes. Unless we are thinking of two different things a standard pin box like what your fifth wheel would have does not have any adjustability unless you unbolt the pin box and then install it in a different set of frame holes on the camper. Does the trailer by chance already have a pin box to gooseneck coupler installed?

No it does not have a goose neck coupler installed. An 8" adjustment is fine but what is the starting point , an extended 1716, or a retracted 1716 distance? That could be 2.5", yes Im talking about installing the 1716 one way or the other. And how do I go from a square tube to a round tube on the offset unit SHK89YR? Thanks Doug

@DougS So a 1716 pin box does extend or retract so I am a little confused on what it is that you have. And a gooseneck adapter that fits in place of a pin box is right at around 22 inches from top to bottom so they are a lot taller than a pin box.

Is that 22'" when it is extended or retracted?
