What Firestone Air Bags do I Need for My 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter, What Spacers for Stock Lift

Updated 05/23/2025 | Published 05/07/2025

Question:

I have a stock Tacoma trailhunter 2024 and have a Go Fast Camper installed on the back. This is approximately 330lbs constant on the bed of my truck. I think the springs have settled at about ~1” sag in the rear now. Will I be able to install the Firestone Ride Rite air bags with the camper already loaded on the vehicle? I presume I’ll be able to correct this sag and dial air pressure to ride more factory? If I order two sets of spacers the 1-1/4” and the 2”, I’ll be able to return either set given best practice of measuring w/brackets in first - for installing airbags with a factory lift in the rear of the Trailhunter? Thanks

Hello Jared,

Sounds like you’ve got a great setup with your 2024 Tacoma Trailhunter and the Go Fast Camper. That camper weight, around 330 pounds, is definitely enough to cause about an inch of sag in the back, so it makes perfect sense that you’d want to level things out. You’re absolutely on the right track looking into the Firestone Ride-Rite air bags.

The Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Double Convoluted - Rear Axle # F83VV are the correct fit for your Trailhunter. Even though the Trailhunter has a slight factory lift, you might not need a spacer at all, strange I know, but it depends on how the truck sits with your setup. If anything, the most you'd need is the 1-1/4" Lift Spacers # F2536.

The key is the distance between the upper and lower airbag brackets, if that gap measures between 5.5" and 6.5", then no spacer is needed. If it's a little more than that, the 1-1/4" spacer will bring it back into the correct range and help prevent the airbag from overextending. The best method is to loosely install the brackets, take a measurement, and go from there.

If you’re looking to pair the air bags with a good onboard air compressor, take a look at the Firestone Air Command Standard Duty Air Compressor – Single Path # F29VV. Being able to adjust the air pressure from inside your cab is a super convenient feature, and since the # F29VV works with both a remote and your smartphone, you’ll have full control right at your fingertips.

If you go ahead and order the spacer and end up not needing it, just let me know, I’ll send over a return label so you can get a full refund, since I recommended the part.

What is your best adventure to date with your Go Fast Camper?

Will these work on a land cruiser 250? Are the sumo springs where they bolt on frame the same as these and work the same?

@PeterF I have something that will work for your Land Cruiser, but unfortunately I do not see any airbags for the 2024 Land Cruiser with any of our manufacturers. Instead I have a great maintenance free option that will give your suspension the support you are looking for. Check out the SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SS28FJ. The # SS28FJ have a 1,800 pound load leveling, if you need something a little lighter then go with the # SS88FJ which have a 1,400 pounds capacity. These are a great option and a lot of people prefer these over the airbags because the ride when unloaded is much smoother. I attached a review video for you to check out.
