What Hitch Should I Install on My 2024 VW TIguan SE R-Line the Draw-Tite or the EcoHitch?

Updated 04/14/2025 | Published 04/04/2025

Question:

Hello, I have a 2024 VW TIguan SE R-line and am interested in installing a hitch. The hitch will be used for light towing less than 1500lb trailer w/ small boat and bike rack. I noticed there are two options, the Draw-tite hitch as well as the Eco-hitch. The Eco-hitch seems to be a little lower, but the looks is a little more integrated. Do you have a recommendation on which one would be a better fit for the car and the use? Thanks!

Hello Chris,

Both are great options, and for me, the decision would really come down to the installation process.

The Draw-Tite # DT53GR is much easier to install, though it does require trimming the fascia. I’ve attached a picture for reference, the yellow rectangle shows the hole you’d need to cut for the receiver.

On the other hand, the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7395 doesn’t require any fascia trimming, but the installation is quite a bit more involved since you have to disassemble the rear of the vehicle to access the mounting points. I attached a picture and highlighted the access panel with a yellow box, this is where the hitch receiver will come through.

Personally, I’d go with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver – Custom Fit – Class III – 2" # DT53GR. Yes, you have to cut a hole, but the installation is much simpler overall. Plus, the Draw-Tite will handle your bike rack and towing a light boat without any issues.

I've attached the installation videos for both so you can get a feel for what each entails.

Do you need any wiring or a ball mount to go with the setup?
