Can a Tonneau Cover Ever be Waterproof

Updated 03/04/2025 | Published 03/01/2025

Question:

Hi - Ive been looking at several of the hard tonneau covers that are available, and like what I see with yours. My only concern is this or ANY covers ability to keep rain out. I live in Tampa Florida and we periodically get torrential storm showers that soak everything. is there a way to add more insulation or sealant to keep the wind-blown rain out of the bed? thanks

Hey Karl, so a totally waterproof tonneau cover is basically a unicorn. I wish we had something we knew "covered that" but none of them can keep all water out if the rain is really coming down like what you'd be experiencing in Tampa. We don't sell them but one of those solid fiberglass tonneaus that cover the tops of the bed rails and tailgate would be best option most likely. But still you'd need to go pretty hard on seals between the bed rails and the tonneau as well as tailgate sealing like the part # 834532001583. Even with that though it would be hard to say anything would be waterproof.
