What is Correct Weight Ratings for B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount # BWTS20040B

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 01/12/2025

Question:

Your site description says 18k for the bigger ball but you list it at 1450lbs for the tongue weight? There seems to be some confusion in the specs of the bigger ball some places like yours say 18k and some say 14.5k?? Your answer provided above of 1450 lbs would be correct if it is 14,500lbs so what is the correct numbers on this? Is it 18k or 14.5k rated??

Hey Steve, so the weight capacities for the B and W Stow N Tow part # BWTS20040B that you referenced have changed since it first came out so the current and correct ratings are:

Gross towing weight:

When used with 2" ball: 7,500 lbs
When used with 2-5/16" ball: 18,000 lbs

Gross tongue weight:

When used with a 2" ball: 750 lbs
When used with a 2-5/16" ball: 1,800 lbs

Sorry for any confusion on that!

Hey Steve, did the updated 18,000‑lb and 1,800‑lb ratings for the 2‑5/16" ball clear up the confusion for you? Knowing how those specs lined up on your end could help others double‑check their setup too.

@JamesonC. I had the same question. I understand what you’re saying about the rating changes on the newer hitch. But did the actual hitch change or just the rating? I have the old 2021 version that says 14,500 but it’s good for 18,000 ?
