How Does the RV Bunk Bed Safety Net for Children Install, and Will it Come with Hardware?

Updated 01/15/2025 | Published 01/08/2025

Question:

I have a 2023 Forest River Sunseeker with bunk bed over cab. The bed mattress is removable. Will this safety net attach to the ceiling and the lower mattress with hardware included with the Obie RV safety net? Are the instructions included?

Hello Mike,

A good way to ruin a fun trip would be for someone to roll out of the bed resulting in an ER trip, so good choice on a safety net. The RV Bunk Bed Safety Net # OBE94FR comes with all the hardware needed, and the instructions will be included as well. It's pretty easy to install, you just mount the ceiling mounts with 2 screw for each one, then you will screw the bottom tabs of net to bunk frame, then attach the net to the ceiling mounts with those handy seatbelt buckles, and then tighten. Once you get things all set up, let me know what you think about it.

Thank you for the reply. My concern is that the instructions would not explain where in the RV ceiling a good mount for the brackets would be. Specifically I would hope the instructions would help me determine how to find a solid place to drill holes to install the screws so they would not be pulled out and damage the ceiling. For example if drilling into a house wall I need to insure I'm hitting a stud vs just the plaster which would not hold a nail or screw.

@Mike I understand where you are coming from as I worked construction for quite some time. They are not going to have the schematics to every RV built in the instructions (that would be quite the instruction novel), and the instructions are pretty vague. Here are some good ways on how to find a strong spot: -Use a stud finder – A small tool that helps find wood or metal behind the ceiling. -Check near vents or lights – These are usually attached to strong parts of the ceiling. -Knock and listen – A solid sound means there might be a stud, while a hollow sound means it’s just thin paneling. -Look at an RV manual – Some have diagrams showing where the strong parts are. -Measure spacing – If you find one stud, others might be spaced evenly apart (like 16-24 inches away). I did find a video that the manufacturer put together and posted on YouTube, I will email it to you so you can check it out. Like I said, the instructions are pretty vague, and their video is not much better.
